Change in Mileage Rate Allowance

The New Mexico state legislature has passed a change to the New Mexico Per Diem and Mileage Act, which sets the mileage rate that may be claimed when using a privately owned vehicle for University Business.

The change in the law is effective June 19, 2009.  The standard mileage rate that MAY be claimed for usage of a privately owned vehicle from that date through December 31, 2009 is:
50.5 cents per mile.

Departments have the authority to allow any rate up to 50.5 cents per mile, and should communicate the rate they will allow to their employees.

The rate allowed for calendar year 2010 mileage will be 55 cents per mile.

A revision to the UNM Travel Policy (4030) is being drafted to reflect this change.
