Studio #  General Assembly Position Paper

The studio groups focus on five thematic areas relating to the problems we analyze in this class.  The groups are:  Drug trafficking; Weapons trafficking; Weapons of Mass Destruction; Strategy of Insurgency and Counterinsurgency; and Ideology.

Each student is a member of one of the groups.  Each student is called upon to develop a 3-5 page “Position Paper” on the subject of a policy recommendation.  The position paper is a component of the group’s General Assembly presentation.   It is also submitted for course credit to the instructor at the end of the term.

The position paper should address one aspect of the Group’s recommendations.   The position papers should be organized by the group to adhere to a consistent set of policy recommendations.  However, each student is responsible for his or her own data collection, thinking, and presentation of the position paper.

The position paper should be organized in terms of the statement of the problem, the analysis of the capabilities and goals of the implementing institutions, the risks of failure, and the prospects for success.  The paper should be informed, succinct and persuasive.  The paper need not use extensive citation, but specific facts and data may be cited and any direct quotation should be cited.  The paper should be submitted to the instructor in written form on July 25th.
