Midterm

In this class we have analyzed political theory and market theory; political exchange theory; the theory of development; the theory of revolution and war; the theory of insurgency and counterinsurgency.  We have read Ghost Wars and See No Evil.

The problems that we have analyzed are both urgent and complicated.  They are urgent in the sense that if they are not addressed successfully there is a grave risk that they will grow much more serious.  They are complicated in the sense that none of these problems exists in isolation but are all connected to other issues and contesting priorities.

The midterm asks you to write an essay explaining one of the problems from the point of view of the reading material.  The midterm also asks you to identify the role of a number of countries with respect to the problems we are analyzing.  You should be able to describe the countries, their political system, and the government’s position with respect to the problems we are analyzing.

The midterm questions will be available on July 13th and the midterm will take place in class on July 17th in written form.
