Foreign policy refers to the steps states take to pursue their objectives in international relations.  Foreign policy has two principal aspects; the internal aspect refers to factors that influence the formulation of foreign policy and the external aspect refers to the conduct of foreign policy, in particular how a state’s policies interact in the matrix of other states’ policies.  Foreign policy has several dimensions, including diplomatic, military, and economic as well as dimensions that are specific to the conditions of a particular state such as security policy or the promotion of commodity exports.   The case study of foreign policy for this semester focuses on Afghanistan and the “6+2 states” (U.S., Russia, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran).

More information will be available at a later date.
