| 1. How do I request an application? |
University of New Mexico uses two types of application processes: the online application and a paper application. Both processes can be accessed at http://www.unm.edu/grad/admissions/admissions.html . By using the online application, your application will be received much faster and processed more quickly than if you apply by paper. If you choose paper, print the application materials from the website.

| 2. How do I get a Graduate Catalog? |
There is one catalog for both undergraduate and graduate admissions. The catalog may be viewed on line at www.unm.edu/grad/catalog/catatoc.html If , however, you desire a printed catalog, contact the University of New Mexico Bookstore at 505-277-5451

| 3. How can I get additional information about department programs? |
Go to www.unm.edu/grad/programs/programs.html. You will get a category list: Doctoral, Master, Education Specialist and Graduate Certificate degrees. Click on the degree level you are seeking and it will take you to the programs at that level. Choose the program(s) you are interested in and you will see a page of information for that specific department with active links and contact information for each department.

| 4. What is the deadline to apply for a particular semester? |
Each program at the University of New Mexico sets its own deadlines. To see the deadlines, go to www4.unm.edu/grad/main/deadlines/deadlines.php You will see “Select a College”. You will get a full list of all the graduate programs available in that College, the major code (you will need that for your application) and the deadlines for each semester. Some programs accept students only once a year, i.e. Summer only, Fall only. This information is noted on this deadline page.

| 5. Where do I send my application materials? |
|
Send your completed and signed hard copy (paper) Application, Residency Form, Official transcripts, and Fee to:

Send all other materials (letter of intent, letters of recommendation, etc.) to the department you are applying to. Address noted on their web page.

| 6. Is it okay if I have my transcripts/test scores/letters of recommendation sent to you before I fill out an application? |
Yes. However, please note: when you apply , you will be given a set of instructions regarding mailing your transcripts and other documents. Please read these instructions carefully and follow them completely to assure prompt processing of your application. The mailing instructions for transcripts are noted on our web site www.unm.edu/grad/contact/contact.html . The mailing instructions for test scores, letters of recommendation, and all other departmental materials are noted on the Graduate Program web site.

| 7. Why can’t you tell me my test scores, whether I have been admitted, why I was declined, etc. over the phone? |
According to the rights of privacy specified by FERPA, aka the Buckley Amendment, we cannot divulge confidential information over the phone because we are unable to verify the identity of the caller. Neither can we discuss your application file with any party (family, friend, etc.) other than yourself. However, once we have acknowledged receipt of your application and fee, the status of your Graduate application for the Summer 2006 semesters is available here. Status for online Graduate applications that apply to the Fall 2006 semester and beyond can be found here.
