Graduation Checklist
Graduation Checklist

The following requirements must be met before a student's name can be submitted for graduation.

For master's students, the Program of Studies must be submitted by the appropriate deadlines listed in the current UNM Catalog, and must be approved by OGS before a student may take the master's examination. If your unit has a language or skill requirement, the Certification of Language or Research Requirement form must be included when submitting the Program of Studies form.

For doctoral students, the Application for Candidacy should be forwarded to OGS during the semester in which the student has both passed the comprehensive examination and completed any required language or research skill. It should be accompanied by the Report of Examination and Certification of Language Skill Requirement forms.

Students may not graduate with Incompletes. Grades must be posted by the end of the semester. A copy of the grade change should be sent to the Graduation Coordinator at OGS as soon as the grade is posted.

An Intent to Graduate form must be turned in to the department in accordance with the department deadlines.

An Announcement of Examination form must be submitted to OGS no later than two weeks prior to the scheduled date of the examination/defense. Students may not take the exam if three or more semesters have elapsed since their last enrollment.

The Report of Examination form must be turned in by November 15th for Fall Graduation, April 15th for
Spring Graduation, and July 15th for Summer Graduation.

Master's students under Plan I must be continuously enrolled for 599 hours, and doctoral candidates for 699.
Master's students under Plan II must have been enrolled within three (3) semesters (including summer) of graduation.

Master's students must complete all requirements for their degree within seven (7) years, and doctoral students within
