2004.10.28 Election Night Party
Election Night Party
November 2, 2004
SUB Ballroom B: 6:00pm-11:00pm
You are invited to watch Election Night Results trickle in with the College
Democrats and College Greens on November 2nd. We will watch the results on
the large projection screen of the SUB Ballroom. We will also have a free
Asian buffet dinner for all attendees.
If the election is close, we may not have results of the Presidential race
by the time our party is over. But we should know results from other major
issues that were on the ballot.
If George Bush wins, we will strategize on what to do to get him out. If
John Kerry wins, we will strategize on how to make sure progressive issues
are still brought to the table under a Kerry presidency.
This will be a fun night of political discussion and free food. There may
be a lot of celebrating or there may be a lot of crying. Please join us for
this exciting evening!

2004.10.30 Poll Workers Needed
My fellow concerned citizens,
Less than a week before a very important election and poll sites in
your area are still in need of election workers! Please consider
becoming a poll worker and encourage others to, as well. This is
a small service we can do to advance the democratic process
that ensures our nation's precious liberty. More information is
below. Please contact my colleague, Maggie Williams of the
Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law at
202 662 8371 if you have any questions. Many thanks in
advance.
Joshu Harris
Bernalillo County: Albuquerque
´ Election Office: 505.768.4085;
´ To be a poll worker, the person must: 1.) be a registered
voter and 2.) attend a training;
´ Their website indicates that poll workers are needed for the
North and South Valley;
´ Democrats are needed for the Northeast Heights.
2004.10.28 VotePair.org
Dear Campus Greens,
as we head into Election Day reports consistently show Ralph Nader polling at 1%, David Cobb at less than that. It is therefore clear that many if not most of the 2.7% who voted Green in 2000 (e.g., Michael Moore) are now voting for Kerry in order to defeat Bush.
Wanting to defeat the worst Earth rapist ever to sit in the White House is understandable but I am sure that many if not most of these new Kerry voters would dearly love to also be able to vote for Cobb or Nader.
They of course cannot since we lack Instant Runoff Voting, since we have a winner-take-all Electoral College. There is a solution, something we can and should do to improve the present situation.
If you or anyone you know are likely to vote for Kerry please check out VotePair.org, a website that allows people who are going to vote Kerry to have a vote for Cobb or Nader counted in another state. VotePair.org unites Cobb and Nader supporters from "swing" states with other progressives in "lost" Bush states like Texas, Nebraska and Utah. In a recent C-SPAN interview Ralph Nader publicly recommended VotePair.org as you
can read in his comments found at http://news.votepair.org/archives/2004/10/ralph_nader_poi.html
VotePair.org takes away the false choice imposed upon us by the Electoral College, achieving the dual goal of helping defeat Bush while also growing numbers for Green ideals in the popular vote. The growth of VotePair.org has been explosive, they just started
screening and matching pairs on October 13th and already registrations are over 17,500. VotePair.org incorporates strong checks against deception since they put participants in direct touch with each other, they have a range of security measures in place to screen out and block fraudulent registrations and those uncertain about their match can ask for a new
one at any time. Case law has advanced since Republicans managed to bully similar operations into cessation back in 2000, there are favorable new precedents and VotePair.org has a dedicated legal advisory team this time around.
If progressives work together we can achieve the dual goal of defeating Earth's worst enemy while also growing numbers for Green ideals in the popular vote.
If you or anyone you know are likely to vote for Kerry then please consider VotePair.org so that a vote will also be counted for Cobb or Nader. The more people that know about this win-win effort the better it will be for all of us so please help spread the word far and wide.
PH (Pat Henry)
Hello Voter,
In the last four years, I have used my words, money and lifestyle to show thousands of other citizens, our government and millions of other life-forms on our planet that I support the Green platform and that I want Green representation. That's why - if it's down to the wire and a Green candidate has only a slim chance of winning - I don't feel that I have to use my vote simply as a device to make my position known. I would love... totally love David Cobb and Patricia LaMarche to be our president and vice president. However, it is unlikely it will be this time.
Therefore, I will be joining other Greens in the strategy of voting for candidates that have both a good chance of winning and with whom the Greens will be in the best position to build a coalition for peace and the planet.
Respectfully, Stele Ely www.greenvibe.org
*JOHN KERRY VS GEORGE W BUSH ONLINE CONCERT* www.greenvibe.org
This is a rousing, online 24/7 election-music concert to reward those working to get out the vote, and to motivate others to get involved. This *KERRY VS BUSH CONCERT* includes funny, romantic, folky political tunes from various musicians - such as David Rovics, the Therapy Sisters, Dave Lippman and Stele Ely.
The first of 35 songs is "Big Green Diff" and is sung by kids, squids, and other animals that point out the crucial difference between Kerry and Bush on environmental issues. Because a poor environmental policy hurts our national security, health and the economy, the BIG gap between Kerry and Bush on this issue m-a-g-n-i-f-i-e-s their difference.
VICTORY CONCERT: Our next concert will be the *VICTORY CONCERT* after the election to reward those who have helped get the candidates elected and laws passed that will make for a politically safer and environmentally sound planet. There will be some new musicians in the concert as well as some faves.
'04:

+ Write your local newspaper.
+ Call a radio talk show.
+ Urge friends and others to vote.
+ Help someone get to the polls.
MUSIC TEAMS: Music fans are also invited to team up with GreenVibe in order to sponsor a musician in the composition a new song for our upcoming online concerts and radio play. If they want to, a sponsor can guide the composition of the song by providing an issue and a viewpoint to the songwriter, and in many cases, will be able to provide feedback to the musician as the song is being developed. Songs that are in these concerts can be heard by thousands online and are promoted to DJs at public and commercial radio stations. As well as helping create grassroots media that's good for our planet, a sponsor will receive a copyright certificate in their name for part ownership of the song that they sponsor. Contact Stele Ely at GREENTOPIA(at)YAH00.COM to get started.
Whether you work with GreenVibe or not, you can always send info on an issue to any of your favorite musicians on your own and request that they compose/perform a song for that issue.
SONGWRITERS: Songwriters are invited to submit their acoustic political and ecological songs through www.greenvibe.org for possible inclusion in our online concerts. If you are a songwriter - whether you submit a song to us or not - composing and performing music to support positive political and/or environmental action is a superb way to help protect our priceless planet.
Honorable Citizen,
Thanks for forwarding this concert and election info on to friends and family.

Student Organization Leaders,
Greetings- This is a message to advise you of a lecture this evening by Ethan Nadelmann, the director of our nation's premiere drug policy reform organization, the Drug Policy Alliance. Given the scale and importance of the issue, our society in general suffers from a regrettable lack of informed discussion of viable policy alternatives. Tonight's lecture represents an excellent opportunity to become informed as to what the options are for addressing one of the most significant public health concerns of our time.
Please forward to anyone that may be interested.
Thank you for your time.

2004.10.26 Greenpeace Training for Student Activists--Full Semester (pdf)
Dear friend,
I saw your group on the Campus Greens website and I am writing to personally
invite you to apply to the Greenpeace Organizing Term - a Semester-long
training program for students who have the drive and passion and want the
training to be one of the country's best environmental activists.
If you can't participate please pass this message along to others who might
be interested in this program!
No matter who wins the upcoming election, there has never been a more
important time to continue to stave off unprecedented attacks on our
environment or to take the offensive to pass strong new laws, hold
corporations accountable, and undo the damage that has been done over the
last four years.
This Spring, Greenpeace will train ten students. You will play a crucial
role on a critical Greenpeace campaign, receive training from the nations
best and most experienced campaigners and travel to Europe for a week to be
trained by international environmental leaders and meet students working on
similar issues around the world.
Why? Because Greenpeace knows that students have played an integral role in
every major social movement in recent history and that we cannot win the
fight for a green and peaceful world without working with and training the
next generation of environmental leaders.
We are looking for the best college students - primarily freshmen or
sophomores - who are passionate, bold, smart, visionary, strategic, savvy,
and ready to join us in the trenches.
You can learn more about this program at www.greenpeaceusa.org/goa/ Better
yet, give me a call (202) 319-2401 or email me at

2004.09.11 College Credit
Dear College Greens,
If any of you who are working in campaigns are interested in receiving
academic credit for your efforts, please stop by and speak with me about
the possibility of signing up for an academic internship. This is open to
ALL majors (not just poli sci). Students can earn 1 academic credit for
every 64 hours worked in the field (i.e., for 3 credits you need to work
192 hours) by registering for Political Science 291 or Political Science
491. In addition to the volunteer work, students must turn in a paper (10
page paper for 291; 20 page paper for 491) analyzing the experience and
relating it to broader academic/scholarly themes. I work with students to
make sure the paper format is flexible and is designed to meet the
student's particular goals/interests. I will need a description of your
internship responsibilities, a copy of your schedule including start/end
dates, and a letter from your supervisor confirming that you met the
required hours and performed in a satisfactory manner.
If you want more details, please see me during my office hours--Wed.
10:15-2 or Thurs 11-2--and we'll discuss details. Please tell other
students about this opportunity. The Department of Political Science
regards this internship opportunity as an excellent means for you to
connect your civic involvement with your scholarly/academic life. I think
it would be wonderful for you to get academic credit for the good work you
are doing.
My office is 2076 in the Political Science Department if you wish to meet
with me. I can sign a pink card to register you still for this semester,
or we can talk about internship possibilities for later semesters.
Best regards,
Prof. Ellen Grigsby
