CONTINUING EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES
The Division of Continuing Education and Community Services serves as a center for lifelong learning, enriching the personal and professional lives of people through creative and innovative learning experiences. The Division collaborates with the main campus, the community, and companies in the development of concepts, strategies and delivery systems to create lifelong learning opportunities and to advance cultural understanding for a diverse evolving society.
Educational activities designed for adults not concerned with formal credit offerings are a part of the University's continuing education programs. The Division provides various short courses, workshops, conferences, symposiums, institutes, and other non-credit offerings designed to help participants become more proficient in their professions, improve their personal lives, or better enjoy their leisure time.
The Personal Enrichment Program offers a variety of non-credit courses in an informal and non-competitive environment. Registration is open to all adults (18 years and older, unless otherwise noted) regardless of educational background.
The Training Center is a partnership between the Professional Development Program and the Computer/Information Technology Training Program to design, develop, and deliver classes and certificate programs to meet specific training needs of individuals, business, industry, nonprofit/government organizations, and UNM units.
Special Projects at the Division of Continuing Education include a variety of training activities, community-service programs, and resources for lifelong learners. Several of these projects are offered throughout the state.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
A CEU is defined as follows: ten contact hours of participation or the equivalent in an organized non-credit continuing education experience under sponsorship of the University of New Mexico. The UNM Continuing Education Unit (CEU) program gives recognition on a national basis to persons continuing their education and keeping current in their chosen fields by participating in UNM-sponsored non-credit programs. The CEU is applicable to the appropriate learning experiences of adults, whether vocational, technical, professional, or managerial. It provides a record for the individual student and serves as a vehicle for the University to record total continuing education units earned.
