FACULTY DISPUTE RESOLUTION
The Faculty Dispute Resolution program offers mediation services and mediation training for UNM faculty at the main and branch campuses.
1. Eligibility
All administrators, full-time and part-time faculty are eligible for this free service.
2. Mission
The Faculty Dispute Resolution program is designed to provide mediation and conflict resolution services to UNM faculty who are experiencing workplace conflicts. The long-term vision is a widespread network of trained UNM faculty committed to constructive conflict management.
3. Scope
The nature of disputes that fit the mission of the FDR may include, but are not limited to, such concerns as faculty feeling undervalued and misperceived by colleagues, department chairpersons and deans; workload disparity (quantity and/or quality), questions of fit and allegiance to the unit, differing expectations and viewpoints, communication breakdowns, different views about department management, decision making and ways of responding to conflict; and different views of program goals, faculty appointments and assignments.
Questions and disputes about discrimination and civil rights should be directed to the director, Office of Equal Opportunity Programs, 277-5251.
Questions about tenure and academic freedom should be directed to the chair of the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee through the University Secretary, 277-4664.
