Journal Adjusts Distribution Area

Journal Staff Report

Albuquerque Publishing Company, which prints and circulates the Albuquerque Journal, announced today that effective Jan. 31 it will reduce or eliminate its distribution of the Journal in certain parts of the state.

T.H. Lang, president of Albuquerque Publishing Company and publisher of the Journal, said the Journal has a long and proud history of serving newspaper readers throughout New Mexico. However, the added cost of delivery to outlying areas has been subsidized by advertising revenue for years.

"The current advertising downturn has forced us to re-evaluate the cost of subsidizing this portion of our total circulation along with all other ongoing costs," Lang said. The reduction represents a small percentage of the Journal's total circulation.

The areas affected by this change are mostly in extreme northern New Mexico, along the east side of the state and in the far southwest portion of New Mexico.

The Albuquerque Journal will continue to be circulated from Las Vegas south to Las Cruces, west to Grants and Gallup, in north central New Mexico and in the Four Corners areas, as well as in its core market area.

Home delivery subscribers in the affected areas will be offered either mail or electronic delivery.
