Board Positions and what they really are responsible for
*13 board positions*
President
The President is responsible for ALL business concerning the organization…PERIOD. So unless, others step-up and accept responsibilities for tasks, the President has to do it. Being President requires a person to communicate, organize, and delegate tasks. In the event that the President is unable to complete the term, one of the vice-presidents takes over, but that is extremely rare.
Vice-President for MAES Affairs
The Vice-President is responsible for anything that has to do with MAES including:- coordinate the travel and registration for the MAES National conference held every fall
- write the MAES National Conference Travel Grant proposal
- participation in MAES conference calls
- assist with Science Extravaganza, since technically it is the “MAES Science Extravaganza”
- write the MAES Year-End-Report, due in the spring
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Vice-President for SHPE Affairs
The Vice-President is responsible for anything that has to do with SHPE including:- coordinate the travel and registration for the SHPE National conference held every fall
- write the Travel Grant proposal for the SHPE National Conference
- participation in SHPE conference calls
- write the SHPE Year-End-Report, due in the spring
- know every little rule that SHPE expects HESO to do as part of being a SHPE student chapter
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for:- the hesorg@unm.edu email account, read and reply if necessary
- keeping track of every event HESO does
- keeps track of attendees of all the events to update
- updates the HESO Points and makes sure its accurate
- keeps track of the all the pictures
- update the HESO calendar, it’s a Google calendar so it only takes 20 seconds to create an event
- helps the Vice-Presidents write their Year-End-Reports by giving them the list of HESO events
- records anything important at meetings, board meetings or general member meetings
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for:- the budget, which includes
- travel to 6 conferences a year (NLC, SHPE Regional, NILA, HENAAC, MAES, SHPE)
- Science Extravaganza
- HESO Career Fair
- Hermanitos
- Food for events like monthly meeting and tailgates
- socials
- submitting in a timely fashion the proper paperwork into ESS (who administrates our account) for purchases and travel expenses
- find ways to save money anyway possible
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Internal Activities Coordinator
The Internal Activities Coordinator is responsible:- coordinating food and drinks for the monthly HESO general meetings
- coming up with and coordinating imaginative regular social events without costing much money
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Advertising Chair
The Advertising Chair is responsible for:- advertising any HESO functions around campus, especially the HESO Career Fair or general meetings, through posting flyers, chalking, and emailing the listserv
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Corporate Contact (3)
The corporate contacts are responsible for:- coordinating and helping Career Services with HESO’s Career Fair
- selling sponsorship packages to companies who register for the Career Fair
- help write Science Extravaganza sponsorship proposal (not done every year)
- typically, the work will start in late spring, the bulk is over the summer, and then some over fall
- its generally not a lot of work because you can spread the time out, but its really important because the Career Fair pays for most of what HESO does
- AND generally assist the President to run HESO with all the other stuff we do
Community Outreach Coordinators (2)
The primarily responsible for the continued success of the Hermanito’s outreach effort by organizing weekly meetings after school on the Highlands High campus. Outreach coordinators are also responsible for scheduling presenters and planning projects for the High School students with an annual budget. The Outreach Coordinators will be the key liaisons between HESO and our Jr. Chapter, the Hermanito’s. Hermanitos are future HESO members!Webmaster
The webmaster is responsible for:- The HESO webpage
- Finding new technical ways to make it easier for the rest of the board to do their jobs, ie automating elections, online potluck lists, etc. WITHOUT THE USE OF BLOGS
