ENGL 099: Developmental English II. (4 credits) An intensive study of fundamental writing skills, focusing upon paragraph development and fluency; introduces essay writing and includes a skills laboratory. Grade option: RA, RB, RCR, RNC. Prerequisites/ Placement: a minimum placement test score . Co-requisites: ACAD 100.
ACAD 100: College Reading and Study Skills. (3 credits) A first-semester academic studies course offering a student-centered-orientation to college, integrating reading, writing, and study skills, collaborative group projects, a wide range of activities and strategies for successful learning and which includes a skills laboratory. Grade option: A, B, CR/NC. Placement: Required of all entering students whose placement test scores place them in ENGL 099.
ENGL 100: Writing Standard English. (4 credits) Developmental writing course providing practice writing and revising basic essays, as well as intensive study of grammar, punctuation, and usage and includes a skills laboratory. Grade option: RA, RB, RCR, RNC. Prerequisites/placement: Successful completion of ENGL 099 (RA, RB, or RCR), or minimum placement test score. This course if offered with UNIV 101.
UNIV 101: Introduction to UNM and Higher Education. (3 credits) Designed to accelerate successful transition to university life. Grade option: A, B, CR/NC. Placement: Required of all students who place into ENGL 100. This course is offered with ENGL 100.
ACCELERATED ENG 99/100. (4 credits) Developmental writing course providing practice writing and revising basic essays, as well as intensive study of grammar, punctuation, and usage and includes a skills laboratory. This course is an opportunity for the student to complete all of the English 99 and 100 requirements in one course. COMPASS test scores place the student into this class. Student must be highly motivated with little distraction to offset learning and have basic computer skills. Grade option: RA, RB, RCR. RNC
Prerequisites/placement:
The motivation and life flexibility to complete two developmental English classes in one semester.

ACAD 101 College Preparation . (4 credits):This course integrates academic reading, writing, and critical thinking, college level note-taking, library skills, exploratory research, group work, oral presentations, as well as summary and synthesis of complex materials, including challenging and stimulating texts. Students will explore content-based questions using these college strategies, and map out writing and speaking assignments using a variety of effective structures such as investigation and argument. In the process, students will learn to understand and identify patterns in the structures, codes, expectations, and vocabulary of academia. Grade option: A, B, CR/NC. Placement: Required of all entering students whose placement test scores place them in Accelerated ENGL 99/100.
MATH 099: Pre-Algebra. (4 credits) A pre-college mathematics course. Emphasis is placed on basic operations, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, and introductory algebra and includes a skills laboratory. Grade option: RA, RB, RC, RCR, RNC. Prerequisites/placement: minimum pre-algebra COMPASS score of 24, or math ACT acore of 14.
MATH 100: Introduction to Algebra. (4 credits) Topics covered include linear equations, polynomials, factoring, formulas, graphing, and applications problems and include a skills laboratory. Grade option: RA, RB, RC, RCR, RNC. Prerequisites/placement: Successful completion of MATH 099 (RA, RB, RC, RCR) or minimum pre-algebra COMPASS score of 36, or math ACT score of 16. This course is offered with Math 193.
MATH 193: Critical Thinking for Math. (2 credits) Strategies for successful achievement in mathematics, including techniques for productive time management, effective note taking in mathematics, useful study and test taking skills for mathematics, and strategies for improving critical thinking and problem-solving ability. Grade Option: A, B, CR, NC. Placement: Required of all students who place into MATH 100. This course is offered with Math 100: Introduction to Algebra.
