Requirements for the Minor in History
The History Minor is designed to supplement a student's work in his or her major field through a minimum of 7 semester-long courses (21 hours) at the lower and upper division. The lower division requirement includes a minimum of two semester courses (6 hours) from the following surveys: History 101-102 (Western Civilization), History 161-162 (United States History), History 181-182 (Latin American History), or History 251-252 (Eastern Civilization). Five upper-division courses are required and three of them must be concentrated in the same general area of history (US, Europe, Latin America). History minors may also enroll in History 496, which is a directed study class arranged between and individual student and a professor. Students are encouraged to establish their own program and to select courses that conform to their individual interests and career goals.
