Honors Summer Orientation
Before the start of each fall semester, the University Honors Program requires all new Honors students (admitted to the program either through the May deadline or admitted at New Student Orientation over the summer) to attend Honors Orientation. Orientation is our way of welcoming new students to the beautiful Honors facilities, and to introduce them to our award-winning faculty, and all of the Program's benefits and requirements.
Additionally, students who attend and fully participate are entered in a drawing for three $100.00 stipends!
Summer 2011 Orientation
Thursday, August 18th
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
in the Dudley Wynn Honors Center
(ground floor of building 73, Student Health Center)
What Time Should You Arrive
Because the Honors Program is dedicated to cultivating a community of life-long learners, Orientation is first divided into Tier groups. While the entire Honors Orientation spans the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., each Tier is only about one hour and thirty minutes long. So students attending Orientation should set aside 1.5 hours of their time that day (rather than the whole six-hour block). In other words, a student beginning the Honors program needs to attend just one Tier of Orientation.
Tier 1: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Tier 2: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Tier 3: 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Tier 4: 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
How Will You Know Which Tier to Attend?
Before students pick a Tier to attend, they must first sign up for a Fall 100-level Legacy seminar. Visit our Current Seminars page to see the 100-level seminars available this Fall. Once you've added a 100-level Legacy to your schedule you'll then know which Tier to join at Orientation.
Here's how they are grouped:

If you are not signing up for a Legacy in the Fall, you're still required to attend Orientation, so please call our office and we'll help you schedule a Tier.
NOTE: This list is subject to change so check back in July or call our office at 505-277-4211 to confirm your Tier and it's start time.
Unique Orientation Process
Upon arrival students will receive a Passport to Honors. As they travel to different Information and Experience Destinations, they will get a stamp in their passport for each station. Once the passport is complete, they return it to the Honors Office for a chance to win a grand prize!
Students will check in with their Legacy classmates, and together as a learning community, they will explore the Program and its unique and rewarding opportunities. While at Orientation students will get a feel for the small, round-table discussions and group activities which are at the core of the Honors experience.
If you missed this year's orientation, be sure to visit a Peer Advisor during the first week of school.
