Program Overview

This is a pilot program to teach fundamental English As a Second Language (ESL) skills that will enable participants to communicate more effectively with their co-workers and supervisors at UNM. Employees will be able to register for consecutive 6-week program offerings, which will be scheduled each semester. The two program levels are:

Foundational ESL: The initial program, offered in the Summer 2006, will be for employees with no or very little English skills (CASAS level 0-2). This foundational class will focus on the rudiments of English grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

ESL at UNM (future offering): This class, to be scheduled at a future date, will be for employees who have a rudimentary grasp of the English Language (CASAS level 3 to 5). Classes will include workplace terminology, documentation, and functions such as reading directions & following safety procedures.
