The Hydraulics lab is a combined teaching and research facility. Located
throughout the lab is equipment for various experiments to assist in
teaching and demonstrating the fundamentals of fluid mechanics to
undergraduate and graduate students. The lab’s centerpiece is an 8 foot
wide by 50 foot long tilting table that allows construction of scale
models of hydraulic structures at various slopes. Water is delivered to
the table via a 2000 gpm pump, then re-circulated. Recent research has
focused on the dynamics of lateral outflow from supercritical channels
and innovative hydraulic structures to remove debris from storm water.
