  • The Indian Education Division, Northwest Bureau is accepting applications for the SUMMER NATIVE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE camps FOR AMERICAN INDIAN STUDENTS that will bring together tribal youth to participate in native language and cultural based activities. The funding for this Request for Application (RFA) will be awarded to New Mexico public schools and public charter schools. A limited number of sites will be selected, with funds awarded up to $15,000. Your proposed program shall be implemented between July 7 and August 1, 2008. The deadline for submitting an application is April 25, 2008. If you have questions, the Program Manager for the Northwest Bureau will serve as the primary contact for this RFA.   • IAIE may be receiving funds to establish a Native Language Research and Training Center. A bill that will help in making this happen passed the House and a similar bill is in the Senate. See this link to read more about it or http://wilson.house.gov/Releases.aspx?ID=1510
  • Read about a Navajo medium school in Arizona! If you are interested on how a public school in Arizona is running its school using the Navajo language as the language of instruction (Navajo medium), then read this article which was published by a national education journal, Education Week on March 21, 2007.
