Improving Your Teaching: The Diagnostic Form Report

faculty

The IDEA Diagnostic Form Report is four-pages long. If you had the students fill out the long form, you will get a report much like this sample Diagnostic (Long) Form Report. If the students filled out the short form, you will get a report much like this sample Short Form Report. The first page is a global summary of your teaching effectiveness. The second page summarizes how the students rated their learning, based on the objectives you specified in the FIF. The last page provides summary statistics for each question on the survey.

The third page of the report is the key to improving your teaching effectiveness. It contains a table whose first column lists 20 teaching methods, which in turn correspond to 20 questions on the student survey. If a teaching method is relevant to your specified learning objectives, and you scored poorly on that method, then the report recommends that you strengthen that method.

Finally, for each teaching method, the IDEA website has a paper with ideas for strengthening that method. See Improving Teaching: Facilitating Teaching Methods.
