What We Are Offering:
The Institute for American Indian Research (IfAIR) announces Graduate
Research Scholarships for students whose research focuses on American Indian
topics and issues. We welcome research from any discipline or from an
interdisciplinary perspective on both historical and contemporary topics. The
Institute will award scholarships in the following amounts: $250, $500, and
$1000.
Awards Cover:
The Award is provided on a reimbursed expenses basis. The funds may be
used for research trips, supplies, books, or other research expenses. The
number of awards made will depend on both the quality of the applications received
and the scholarship amount requested. Awardees will be asked to give
a public presentation at a future IFAIR sponsored research colloquia prior
to their graduation.
What to Include in Your Application:
Graduate students should submit the following items:
(1) a curriculum vita (no more than two pages);
(2) a brief proposal describing your research and significance (no more than
two pages) and indicate if you have received UNM IRB and/or American Indian
Tribal approval to conduct your research;
(3) a budget statement indicating what scholarship amount you are applying
for ($250, $500, $1000) and how you will use the funds; and
(4) a letter of support from a mentoring faculty member.

Faculty Research Awards to be given as “seed money” for research
focusing on American Indian topics and issues. We welcome applications
from any discipline or interdisciplinary perspective on historical or contemporary
topics. The Institute will give one or more awards in the amounts of
$250, $500, or $1000.
How Awards Can Be Used:
The award is intended to supplement research trips, supplies, books, or other
research expenses. The number of awards made will depend on both the
quality of the applications received and on the amounts of funding requested. Funds
can be dispersed in the following ways: (1) by reimbursement with receipts,
(2) through direct payment of allowable costs, e.g., plane tickets, or (3)
in a lump sum (subject to taxes). Awardees will be asked to present
or assist IFAIR at one of our future research colloquia.
What to Include in Your Application:
Faculty should submit the following items:
(1) a brief curriculum vita (no more than two pages);
(2) a brief proposal describing your research and its significance (no more
than two pages); and indicate if you have UNM IRB approval, seeking it and
if working with an American Indian tribe, if you have Tribal approval to conduct
your research.

the funds.

What We Are Offering:
The Institute for American Indian Research (IFAIR) has established
a small grants program to fund campus events focused on American Indian issues. We
are offering one or more grants of up to $500 and $1,000 each to support campus
events during 2009. Any faculty member or student organization may apply.
How Grants Can Be Used:
Proposed events many include (but are not limited to) mini-conferences, reading/research
groups, exhibits, speaker or film series, performances, panel discussions,
or workshops. Events focused on scholarship, artistic/creative work,
or policy and practice are all eligible. Events that focus on community
outreach are encouraged. We encourage proposals that cross-disciplinary
boundaries or that bring together a combination of faculty, students, and
community scholars or activists in both planning and execution. The
number of awards made will depend on both the quality of the applications
received and the amounts of funding requested. Applicants may not include
a stipend for their own work on the project in the budget.
What to Include in Your Application:
(a) the specifics about the event;
(b) the target audience for the event;
(c) the significance of the event to American
Indian issues;
(d) the proposed schedule/time frame for the
event; and
(e) the primary applicants qualifications/background
for staging the event;
