Visiting Research Scholars Program

BRINGING PUBLIC PERSPECTIVES INTO THE POLICYMAKING PROCESS

Overview

Since 1997, the IPP has helped manage this multidisciplinary research and analysis program in support of Sandia National Laboratories' Cooperative Monitoring Center (CMC).  This program brings small numbers of scholars to the CMC as temporary employees of the University of New Mexico to conduct research on the potential use of technology in support of cooperative security.  Particular areas of interest include: nonproliferation, cooperative monitoring, transparency, confidence-building, environmental cooperation, and arms control verification. By bringing  together policy experts and technical experts, the program seeks to stimulate innovative ideas, promote discussion of new initiatives, and contribute to the literature about arms control, monitoring and verification technologies, and cooperative security.

Prospective research scholars are selected based on a competitive process that considers mutual areas of interest between the individual researcher and the CMC, periods of availablity, and project proposals.  Additional program information and a description of the application process is available at:  http://www.cmc.sandia.gov/scholars-description.htm
