The Hewlett-Packard High-Achieving Schools Grant Initiative is targeted
to public middle or high schools in the United States that mainly serve
low-income students who are very successful academically, especially in
mathematics.
In June, 2002, HP and the Univeristy of New Mexico selected nine of
these “high-achieving schools”, and supported their future success
by giving them the equipment and support needed to integrate the use of
wireless mobile computing technology into mathematics and other curriculum
during the 2002-03 academic year.
Each high-achieving school received:
-
an HP Wireless Mobile Classroom
-
a $7,500 cash award to support project implementation
-
support in technology integration
-
participation by two mathematics teachers and an administrator in a 3-day
Summer Institute conducted by the University of New
Mexico College of Education from August 12-14, 2002
-
the opportunity to share its success with the network of the nine high-achieving
schools that have received the HP grant, and with the greater education
community
