Failure
of a portion of a mine waste pile motivated a study to identify remining portions
of the pile that were unstable and to suggest appropriate remedial stabilization
efforts
This
project involves monitoring soil water evaporation as a function of different
conditions with respect to the distance to the water table, soil type, climatic
conditions, river staging, shading, and surface mulch. These data will be used
to develop a GIS-based predictivemodel that will be used to estimate soil water
evaporation under different conditions along the Middle Rio Grande.
