It started out Friday night with a car show in Los Lunas at the Middle School. Thirty-two classic cars showed up. I was parked between a 1978 Mustang and a 1965 Thunderbird but at about 6:30 PM the Thunderbird disappeared. Pat and Vickie Hall showed up in their Rampside to take its place and keep me company. A short time later the roar of a motorcycle announced the arrival of Dave Huntoon. We listened to "oldies and car music" presented by a DJ and woofed down sodas and water in 104 degree heat. Soon some of us moved to a shady spot next to a big tree with plenty of cool green grass. We were feeling great until at 7:00 PM the sprinkler system came on and drenched us all. We moved to another shady spot that didn't have grass or sprinklers. About thirty minutes later, we were getting wet again. We looked up and there was one set of clouds in the sky that picked the spot above us to let down a shower. Those of us with dusty cars now had cars with spots of dirt on them. At 8:00 PM we gave up and headed for home. Saturday was the car show and cookout at the "Mild to Wild" event downtown. On the way to get my car washed, I saw a nice looking lady in a bikini holding a sign that announced a Bikini Car Wash to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. It was only $5. That's what I would have paid at the do-it-yourself car wash I was headed to. So, I supported Ronald McDonald by watching as 16 bikini-clad models from a local school worked over my car. Eight of them washed the car, then I moved the car for eight more to dry it. I noticed a photographer taking pictures of the girls at work, so I offered to let them all climb into the Corvair for a group shot. Unfortunately my camera was under the car seat, so I don't have photos to include with this story to get your attention. Sixty-two cars showed up at Mild to Wild. We listened to the Governor's Proclamation for the day and then had lunch. Hotdogs were cooked on a grill mounted into the rear end of a 1957 Chevy BelAir. Maybe that's why they tasted so good. There were cookies, chips, watermelons and other goodies. Dave Huntoon once again came to keep me company and take pictures. At about 2:00 PM everyone began to leave for home and a short rest before the next event: the Ice Cream Cruise in Los Lunas. By 6:00 PM cars were starting to arrive at the bank in Bosque Farms. By the time the caravan left at 6:30 there were 45 cars. My wife and I got lucky and ended up as car number four, so when we got to Baskin and Robbins, we had plenty of room to park and were at the front of the line. At about 8:00 PM we finished looking at the other cars and headed for home, only to stop in at Pat and Vickie's house for a carb adjustment and to drop off a button commemorating the weekend occassion. Since it was such a nice "cool" evening we decided to take the way home through town, down Broadway and then Central to Coors and then home. Of course we got lots of comments about the car as we drove past all the bars on Central. At about 10:00 PM we pulled into the driveway, completing a busy, tiring but satisfying weekend. See you all in August. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ July Meeting Minutes Art Gold Meeting came to order on 07-11-2012 at 7:03 pm at North Domingo Baca Multicultural Center with 20 in attendance. Officer Reports President (John Wiker) told us about the Make-A-Wish car show coming up on Sunday August 26th, Reliable Chevrolet on Coors. Vice President (Pat Hall) was absent, stuck in Farmington. Treasurer (Robert Gold) stated that the account has $4,593.98. Secretary (Art Gold) stated he had nothing to say. Membership (Larry Yoffee) stated that the First Anniversary of our Multicultural Center is being celebrated on Saturday July 21st from 9:00 am to 12 noon. He asked members to bring their Corvairs. On August 1st Larry will be talking to the mayor of Chama to make arrangements for the 2014 Tri-State. Larry talked about the "Vairs and Balloons" event on Saturday October 6th and Sunday October 7th. On Saturday he plans a welcome to visitors, a driving tour and a dinner. Sunday will see the early morning lineup (6:00 AM) of classic cars to go on the field after the first wave of balloons takes off. Member Reports Jim Pittman (Editor) stated that the newsletter deadline is Friday 7-20. Jim said the newsletter is "trucking along." Per the Communique, the Fan Belt Toss is in October in Palm Springs, California. Jim expects that there will be changes in CORSA's organization to be seen after the convention. Jim discussed sending newsletters to other clubs on an exchange basis and the shrinking of our mailing list. Jim said due to lack of interest there will be no more Newsletter CDs except on request, and wondered what to do with the years of newsletters from other clubs, in PDF format, accumulating on his computer. He can't afford to print them out. Vickie Hall (Merchandise) was absent and had no report. Heula Pittman (Sunshine) stated that everything is rocking along. Mike Stickler (Car Council) turned to Robert Gold for a report on the last NMCCC meeting. Robert stated that the meeting was very exciting. The council had an election: Gary Zimmerman (President), Lori Rector (VP). They had made money in the last year. July 15th will be the Village Inn Pizza day for the volunteers of the Museum Show. All Clubs Picnic will be held on August 12, at the Oak Flats Picnic Area, $5 per car, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be a "Mild to Wild" car show on 7-14, see the Council's website for more. New Business Brenda Stickler was the 50/50 winner and she donated the results to the club, $20.00. Tarmo Sutt discussed the Fourth of July show on the Plaza in Santa Fe. There were about 120 cars, many of them very interesting, and a pancake breakfast, with great fun for all! Tarmo took both cars to the show. The red 1966 Corsa turbo convertible won best 1960's car, very impressive considering the many other nice cars at the show. Tarmo mentioned that some folks had told him that the Corvairs were missed in the car show. He reminded us that not too long ago we had a good turn out of Corvairs for several years. Tarmo visited with two different fellas who had Corvair parts for sale. If anyone is interested, they can contact Tarmo for more information. He also commented that for about three hours he talked to passers-by about our cars, answering questions and promoting our club. He said there was lots of interest among the people he talked with. Thanks, Tarmo! Larry Yoffee told us he was planning a trip to El Paso to pick up some re-chromed bumpers and to take more, and said he'd be willing to take parts to be chromed if anyone had any. This led to a discussion by Larry and LeRoy Rogers about another possible place to have re-chroming done. Our guest and former member Doug Gadomski told us he had a dropped valve seat and asked about a good shop to have a new seat installed. This led to a discussion about shops that used to do that, but no one could think of a shop that still did it. The final consensus was, better to just get another 110 head. Steve Gongora discussed the Los Alamos trip on Saturday October 27th. All who plan to go should consider setting up a caravan. We'd probably need to leave Albuquerque before 10:30 AM. Ollie Scheflow, not present, has scheduled the Old Route 66 clean up for Saturday August 4th at 8:00 AM. Steve Gongora confirmed that the potluck/bingo/auction will be Saturday November 3rd at 6:00 pm at House of Covers. Bingo begins at 6:30 pm. Steve Gongora confirmed that the Christmas Dinner is set for Saturday December 1st at Roper's Restaurant. We have been there twice before. Robert Gold confirmed that the State Fair Car Show will be Sunday September 23rd. Steve Gongora told us that a photo of his red Rampside (thanks, Larry Yoffee!) was selected for the Snap-On calendar for next year. Brenda Stickler asked whether copies of the calendar would be available and Steve said he'd find out. Brenda Stickler stated that Ollie Scheflow's wife Mary Alice had a stroke this afternoon. We don't know her condition right now, but Brenda said that the family told her that she needs peace and quiet at this time. Wendell Walker stated that he has two cars that he can lend to any member who wants to drive one of them to a car show: a Purple 1971 Dodge Challenger convertible and a 2008 Honda S2000 Racer. He did not mention his 1964 Monza convertible. Larry Blair reminded us that, as part of the Tri-State at Chama, we have an opportunity to make a tour to see the San Juan-Chama Project, a system of tunnels and controls that were set up to divert water from the San Juan river into the Rio Grande. This system was started in 1951 and completed in 1976 and is quite a technological achievement. If enough people are interested Larry can set it up. The tour would take most of a day and would require driving on a gravel road. Larry Blair conducted an auction at this meeting. There were many interesting items contributed by a former member, Jim Matthews, who had to leave the Corvair hobby. The auction brought in $58. Meeting Adjourned at 8:01 pm Mr. Art Gold Reporting ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ June 2012 Car Council Report: All Business Robert Gold This month's Council meeting was just "chock full" of stuff to report. To begin with, CNM had just one representative in attendance, me. Our regular Council Rep was attending to a structural emergency at home, so that left me to have the singular honor of being your representative. This meeting was high on content, but low on drama. To begin with, new officers were elected this month. Gary Zimmerman of the MOPAR Muscle Car Club is our new President, while Lauri Rector, of the Four Wheelers Club is the new Vice-President. Unlike the case with most of our CNM elections, the President's job was contested by three nominees. Maybe we could ask one of these NMCCC also-rans to be our President. Just a thought. Another interesting element of this meeting was the report of the Treasurer. Not surprisingly, he reported that the Council had made a profit during this year's fiscal year that ends on June 30, 2012. Happens to be my birthday, by the way. Seriously, I have this to report about the conversion of the Council to a 501C3 (non-profit) organization. Whatever you do,CNM, don't make this change. The IRS responded to the original application and made all sorts of demands for more information and for bylaw changes. I just checked with the oddsmakers in Las Vegas, and the likelihood of the change taking place is now 100-1 against. So much effort, so little result. (Bill Reider, I hope you like this part of my report!) Concerning more positive things, they reported on the free luncheon for those of you who helped at the Museum Car Show. The luncheon will be held on July 15 at Village Inn Pizza in Corrales at 11:30. I figure that there won't be many CNM'ers there since there weren't many CNM'ers at the car show.... too bad. Another date to keep in mind is Saturday, July 14. At 12:30, the MILD TO WILD restoration shop will host a hot dog cookout in honor of Collector Car Appreciation Day. This event will follow the issuance of Governor Martinez' proclamation of appreciation. Rumors that the Governor will be attending the event in Albuquerque after a ride down from Santa Fe in a '35 Chrysler Airstream (or was it a Yugo?) are probably unfounded. But, Governor Martinez did sign the proclamation, and you can see it here: http://nmcarcouncil.net/ 2012/2012-2nd-annual-colle ctor-car-appreciation-day/ Finally, here is an event you can really "sink your teeth" into and I mean that literally. The annual ALL CLUBS PICNIC is scheduled for Sunday, August 12 at the OAK FLATS PICNIC AREA on the Old "South 14" highway -- the highway designation has been changed to New Mexico 337. You'll have to pay $5.00 per car to get in, but we'll have such a great time, you won't mind paying. We have Bob Agnew, of the Old Car Garage, to thank for the arrangements. If you like to see all sorts of neat cars as well as meet some great car people, or if you just want to drive your favorite Corvair through the Manzano Mountains around the curves of scenic old South 14, be sure to attend. So that's it for this month. Not necessarily a meeting for the ages, but still it was worth attending. -- Robert Gold ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cover Story: Car Patina vs. J.C. Taylor Insurance Robert Gold For any of you car fanatics that have not been following buying trends in the collector car world, the word patina is the current buzzword. Collectors are now looking for unrestored/original cars. These collectors are paying big bucks for many cars that a few years ago would have major work done to them to bring them up to pristine condition. There is a saying that is making the rounds- "It's only original once." I've been following this "patina trend" with some humor since many of the cars sold as original were not really in very good condition. The paint could be worn, the interior shot and the engine not working and still the car would command a bunch of cash. Into this world of unrestored cars enters the J.C. Taylor insurance, a company championed by one of our fellow CNM members. J.C. Taylor is one of those insurers that specializes in collector cars. They supposedly give you better rates and coverage than the big mainstream insurers like Farmers. When I was approached to change an insurance policy I had on my 1962 Loadside, I thought the process would be easy and I'd have a new policy in no time. To make sure things went well I declared the Loadside to be worth a mere $5,000. As you may know, in 1962 they only made 369 of this model. This makes my Loadside one of the most rare of the Corvairs. Coupled with the patina that the truck had acquired over the years this vehicle should have been easy to insure. Alas, this was not the case with J.C. Taylor. The insurer required a slew of pictures of my truck. After they reviewed the pictures they asked for more pictures. Then I waited and in several weeks received the news from J.C. Taylor. NO. It seems that this Corvair didn't meet their standards. They didn't want an original rare running 1962 truck with lots of patina. So the moral to this story is that not all "classic car" insurers are created equal. If you want to insure your classic Corvair I would suggest an insurer other than J.C. Taylor. Find a company that understands the car hobby, not these guys. -- Robert Gold ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ July Board Meeting Minutes Heula & Jim Present tonight: John Wiker, Larry Yoffee, Pat & Vickie Hall, Heula & Jim Pittman, Lube Lubert, Robert Gold, Art Gold. John Wiker started the meeting by telling us about an e-mail message that he and Pat Hall received from Don Kellogg of CORSA asking if we could volunteer to host the 2014 CORSA International Convention. Jim named a few of the many people who worked on the 1996 convention and pointed out that most of them were either no longer at CNM or no longer able to do the necessary work. In a report on the 1996 CORSA Convention held in Albuquerque, Mark Domzalski singled out these people for working so hard on the Convention: Debbie Pleau, Bill Reider ("hardest working people in CORSA"); Dennis Pleau; Lee Reider; Jim & Heula Pittman; LeRoy & Emma Rogers; Steve & Rita Gongora; Chuck & Julia Vertrees; Joel Nash; Del & Kim Patten; Will, Satchi & Michi Davis; Jon Anderson; Tarmo & Kay Sutt; Bob Beasley; Larry Blair; Jerry, Sylvia, Rachel Goffe; Dave Huntoon; Mike & Brenda Stickler; Sylvan Zuercher; Wendy & Ilva Walker; John McMahan; Steve Randock; Terry Price; Ollie & Mary Alice Scheflow; Clayborne Souza; Mary Lou & Mark Martinek; Hurley Wilvert; Elizabeth Domzalski; Bob Slusher & Fran Hewitt and John Throne & Lynn Plagge. Several Tri-State friends helped in the Hospitality Suite. How many of these people would be available to work on a 2014 CORSA convention? How many could be replaced by new, energetic members? Another factor: it will be our turn in 2014 to host the Tri-State. Larry Yoffee asked how hosting the Tri-State would affect our hosting the Convention? Could we skip the Tri-State that year, or could we combine it with the Convention? Jim pointed out that in 2011 we hosted the Tri-State instead of the Denver club who were doing the Convention. The same questions came up, and the consensus was, no, we did not want to skip the Tri-State, and no, we did not want to combine it with a Convention. Pat Hall stated that he'd like to see us host the convention and thought that we'd be able to do it. No one else present thought we could. Finally, John Wiker proposed that Jim should call someone at the Denver club and ask about the 2011 Convention, then reply to Don Kellogg that CNM would not undertake the 2014 Convention. The board voted to furnish paper supplies for the Car Council picnic. John agreed to purchase these and the club would pay for them. Larry Yoffee told us his plans were still to go to Chama on August 1st and talk to the mayor and the Chamber of Commerce about our plans for the 2014 Tri-State. Per Ollie Scheflow's request, forwarded to us by Brenda Stickler, we agreed to cancel the August Old Route 66 clean-up. We re-scheduled the October clean-up for October 13th in order not to get in the way of the Balloon Fiesta events. Larry Yoffee updated us on his plans for the Balloon Fiesta. He said we'd greet the out-of-town Corvair people on Friday October 5th. Early on Saturday October 6th we'd start our tour by driving east on I-40 (maybe we'd prefer Old Route 66) to Madrid and Cerrillos where Tarmo would meet us. We'd procede to Santa Fe for lunch then return via I-25 and end up at El Pinto for dinner. Sunday morning October 7th we'd join the Car Show at the Balloon Fiesta Park. We need a slate of officers for the October election. After discussion it seems that Art Gold will run for Secretary, Robert Gold for Treasurer, John Wiker for Vice President and Pat Hall for President. Larry Yoffee said he would be happy to continue as Membership Chair. We encourage anyone interested in running for an office to let the Board know. We could use some new faces. We spent a few minutes wondering what to do about inactive members who have not paid their dues. The current rule is, we mail one month's newsletter after your dues date, then you become inactive. Should we contact inactive members to ask them to re-join? No decision was made. As rain poured down outside, we adjourned. Not having received board meeting notes by newsletter deadline, Heula and Jim compiled this report. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TREASURY REPORT: 06-14-2012 to 07-11-2012 .................... A few friends came over to help clean the cars up. They needed vacuuming, wiping down dusty dashboards and making sure the fingerprints didn't show. But somehow nothing happened until the friends left, and then I did all the cleaning by myself at 10:30 at night. The next morning our friend, Pete, who was going to cook pancakes for the annual Rotary 4th Pancake Breakfast on the Plaza, came by at 5:30 to drive the second car downtown. We arrived at the Plaza at 5:40 A.M. to find that the Corvairs would sit at the beginning of the second block of cars! What a turnout, and it was still really early! After he parked the 1965 green Corsa next to the 1966 red turbo Corsa convertible, Pete was off to cook pancakes, starting at 7:00. Ultimately, there were about 125 cars at the show, so the Corvairs and I were right in the middle. Slowly, as the sun rose higher in the sky, more and more local folk began to arrive and circulated up and down the street, looking at the cars. Several mentioned they remembered enjoying the shows years before when there were many Corvairs in the show. By about 10:00 the street was packed and by now tourists were joining the festivities. I found myself talking to people nonstop, answering questions and just enjoying "car talk." Walter Kahn's 1927 Lincoln, "George," was not there as it has gone to Colorado, but there was a wonderful 1912 Winton open touring car there for the first time this year. One of the people I talked to was a man from Latvia, and he asked if I wanted to buy three Corvair turbochargers. I also met a man who had worked for GM in the 1960's and 1970's. He said he had saved a lot of promotional "stuff" on design and advertising, including on the Corvair, so we agreed to meet so I could see his collection. The person who painted the turquoise car for me years ago happened to be back in Santa Fe and he was amazed to see his handiwork, going strong all these years later. My friend, Pete, joined me again at about 11:00. It seems he was relieved of his cooking duties by Governor Suzanna Martinez and her husband, who decided to take their turn at his cooking station, flipping pancakes for Rotary. He loves to visit too, and we both spent until 1:00 PM promoting the Corvairs. When the president of the Santa Fe Vintage Car Club, Buddy Roybal, stepped up to the bandstand to announce the peoples' choice winners, I was amazed to hear that I had won the award for the 1960's cars! Wow! The overall best of show went to a wonderful yellow 1952 Chevy station wagon with a trunk full of period picnic, fishing and camping gear and a canoe strapped on the roof! We left the Plaza about 2:00 and brought the cars back home. Pete went on his way and I put my toys away again until I could take them out to play with them another day. The Cruise Night on the Plaza is coming up later in July, so I wouldn't have long to wait. In fact, for an even shorter wait I decided to drive the 1965 turquoise Corsa down to Albuquerque for the North Domingo Baca Multicultural center show. It ran beautifully at 75 going down I-25 and back, and was one of several nice Corvairs on display. I am here to tell other CNM members to plan to go to Santa Fe next Fourth of July if they want to see great old cars and have a pleasant day. Who knows, they may also see the governor flipping pancakes! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First Anniversary Celebration Heula Pittman Eleven beautiful Corvairs lined up in front of our meeting place Saturday morning, July 21st. Larry Yoffee; LeRoy Rogers; Anne Mae, Robert, Sara and Javie Gold; Ruth Boydston; Vickie and Pat Hall; Steve Gongora; Tarmo Sutt; Anne, Geoff, Alex and Kate Johnson; and Jim and Heula Pittman drove their cars for the car show. Sara's iridescent lime green early coupe stole the show! This was the one-year anniversary celebration of the opening of the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center at Wyoming & Carmel NE in Albuquerque. We have been meeting there each month since July 2011 and it's a great place for our meetings! Today was a pretty good day for a car show - not too terribly hot but definitely not too cool! Almost a Goldilocks kind of day, as Ray Trujillo would say. Ice cold drinks were provided to help keep us cool. Many of us sat in the shade of a tree and visited. The Sunshine Committee even met and discussed business together - a perfect opportunity! We saw and talked with many passers-by who admired our little cars. One "older couple" walked up to me and began the usual questions and comments ... "Oh we had a Corvair back in 1963; wish we still had it, just loved it!" The lady recalled how she and her husband used to sit together in the same bucket seat as they drove around. She also added that they used to be considerably smaller back then! Her hubby winked at her as she reminisced ... We all enjoyed the entertainment provided by a local Jump Rope Club which included the most limber kids I've ever seen. Radio-controlled model airplanes circled the parking lot overhead and a rock-climbing wall was set up for whoever was brave enough to try it out. Steve tried it out and had a successful climb -- part way to the top. There were two inflatable jumpers provided for the younger children who seemed to enjoy them. Have some free time? Here's a public service opportunity. A lady named Linda told us that volunteer van drivers were needed for their center. She explained that a one-hour training meeting was required of anyone who wished to participate. She said that lots of in-town trips were taken and some out-of-town trips as well. A graph showed our treasury balance over the years. We had a new member, Bud Moore. We were rich with $2,789. Car Council news: Geoff reported that the NOMADS demanded that the Car Council pressure the City Council to stop laws that punished cruising. The Car Council refused to sue the city so the NOMADS walked out. We planned a breakfast at Mi-Mi's, a trip to an Isotopes game, and participation at the NMCCC picnic at El Morro. Some members supposedly didn't attend meetings because we didn't have tech talks. President Dave asked for volunteers to give tech talks. Our For Sale page was crammed with a list of old/new parts being released to the public by Bill Reider as he retired from CAR-TUNE. We reprinted a children's feature, 24 "Letters to God" which expressed a curious mix of naivete and wisdom. A message announced the discovery of a new element "governmentium" with 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons and 111 assistant deputy neutrons for an atomic mass of 312. Ollie reported on the Old Route 66 clean-up which had a record 12 workers! Finally, Jim told about buying a new 1966 Corsa turbo and his adventures getting it to Fairbanks, Alaska for a one-year tour of duty with the Air Force. 14 1998 - VOL 24 - Nr. 8 - # 275 The flagpole crew posed for a cover photo at the Boydston cabin in the Pecos mountains. President Dennis ran our July meeting. Chuck was away so our editor took notes. Monetary assets were $6652. Car Council news: no more swap meets at the University since reservations were not honored. Officer candidates were needed. The museum car show was a success. Santa Fe Fourth of July was coming up. Picnic at the Elks' in August. State Fair car show in September. Tour to Chimayo in October. Larry Blair reported on a visit to Holloman AFB. He saw F-117 stealth fighters and German Luftwaffe pilots. A long-time member who had not paid his CNM dues complained about being dropped but refused to join CORSA. Clayborne and Karen were moving to California. Our speaker was David Mick who told about his experience at GM during the late forties. Jerry Goffe reported on planting the flagpole at the Boydston cabin. It was an experience and those who went enjoyed the day. This issue was full of tech tips: what tools and parts to carry along on a trip, electronic ignition systems, maintaining the carb crossover tube. 21 1991 - VOL 17 - Nr. 8 - # 191 On the cover: "Trunks" illustrated by a Lakewood and three elephants. President Gongora ran the meeting. We had $460 in the bank. We thanked Milton Sanchez for the success of the All-Chevy Show at Ed Black's. We had a dinner meeting at Charlie's Chili restaurant. We planned to go to Santa Fe for the July 4th car show. We planned an econo-run, an auction and a show at the State Fair. Several members planned a Corvair trip to Flagstaff in August. Francis Boydston chaired a committee to pick a jacket patch design for next year's Tri-State at Las Vegas, New Mexico. 28 1984 - VOL 10 - Nr. 8 - # 107 Our cover showed a 1966 Fitch Sprint. In place of a July meeting we all drove up through San Ysidro and the Jemez Valley to Bandelier National Monument in a relaxed econo-run. Norm Brand got best mileage in an automatic: 30.77 MPG, while George Morin got the best with a manual: 30.02 MPG. LeRoy Rogers called for CNM members to attend the Car Council picnic next month. Bill Reider reported on installing two Holly 2-barrel carbs on a 110-HP engine using the Clark's kit. It didn't exactly go smoothly. (Jim will be glad to provide details.) Tips on transmission maintenance and wheel balancing rounded out this skimpy issue. 35 1977 - VOL 3 - Nr. 6 - # 027 Our meeting attracted 31 people, several of whom were guests. Three members were to be on a KOB talk show in August. Francis was working on the problem of affordable insurance for Corvair daily (or occasional) drivers. The Newsletter reprinted a letter from Denmark thanking Francis for sending a part for a 1964 Corvair to a gentleman in that country. The gentleman said he loved his Monza convertible and there was a Corvair club in Denmark. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ == END ==
