DAVID HUNTOON Hope everyone is doing well. I missed this year's State Fair for the first time in maybe 10 years. Had intentions to go, car all cleaned and shiny. Didn't feel well late Saturday so thought staying home would be wise. Next year. We need a good turnout at our next meeting to discuss our upcoming elections in November. I have indicated not to run for an office again. Kay has indicated the same. Will need a few people to step up for these vacancies. Also our Tri-State is fast approaching and we can always use more volunteers. Just for a couple hours here and there. Terry will brief on any last minute details to make the meet a success. Help wanted! Before I forget, I would like to acknowledge all the help I have received as president this last year. Special mention to Lupe and Terry for bearing the brunt of planning the Tri-State. Kay has been invaluable as the secretary and setting up our board meetings online during the difficulties this past year. Steve has done a great job as treasurer with organizing and timely reports. Greg has done a fine job keeping our stretch of Old Route 66 tidy, never been cleaner! Greg is our car council rep also. I think he enjoys meeting like minded car folks like us. Tarmo is always a great resource for Corvair knowledge and great Corvair stories. Jim, as always is the best as our newsletter editor and general historian! Many thanks to all...... See you at the next meeting, David ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== Subject: Pictures 1 of 2 emails From: VICKIE HALL < patandvickiehall @ q.com > Date: 02-Sep-2021 20:22:22 MDT Here are some pictures that I took on our Rail Runner trip to Santa Fe for lunch. Twenty people were in attendance, including visitors Hi & Jim Tillery. President's Report: David announced that CNM elections will be postponed until the November meeting to accommodate the club work during October for Tri-State. He will be stepping down as President of CNM after the upcoming election, and he asked members to consider taking the position. Dave is willing to answer any questions about the responsibilities and the time expenditures for the position. Vice President's Report: Tarmo had nothing to report. Secretary's Report: Kay Sutt reported she will step down as CNM secretary after the upcoming election too, after three years. Please consider taking on this small, but mandated job for CNM, and contact Kay for details. Treasurer's Report: Steve Gongora reported the balance in the account is $9,435.03, with one outstanding bill for $104.70 for newsletter expenses. Sunshine Committee Report: Vickie reported the registration bags for Tri-State are essentially finished and ready to go. She asked members to check the dollar stores for the multi-serving packages of crackers/cheese, peanut butter/crackers, etc. She intends to drop these small snack packets into the registration bags. Newsletter Editor: Jim Pittman informed President David the deadline for the next newsletter is 9 P.M. on Friday, September 24. The newsletter will include nomination forms for the Election of Officers in November and for the Boydston Award which will be presented at the Christmas Party. Old Route 66 Cleanup Report: Greg Nelson scheduled the last cleanup for 2021 on Saturday, October 9 at 9:00 A.M. at the regular place. Thanks, Greg, for your dedication to this project during 2021, and thanks to all members who have participated! Old Business: Robert Gold joined us for the first time in quite a while to announce the details of the upcoming State Fair Corvair Show. The show is among the last single-marque car shows at the State Fair, and it will be held the last Sunday of the Fair, September 19, in the usual location on Heritage Avenue, beside the Manuel Lujan Building. Participants are requested to meet at the strip mall at the southwest corner of Central and San Pedro at 7:00 A.M. After a few pictures, the group will caravan into the Fair to set up for the show. Admission to the State Fair is free for all drivers and their passengers. Please be sure to bring your Covid-19 vaccination card or results of a negative Covid test within the previous 48 hours; these are required for entry onto the fairgrounds. Masking is required indoors only. Robert has the stanchions and rope to run along the street side of the cars. Robert also announced he has been elected president of New Mexico Council of Car Clubs for the coming year. Congratulations, Robert! Larry Blair previewed the CNM train adventure on the Rail Runner on Wednesday September 1st. Virtually all the remaining business centered on the upcoming Albuquerque Tri-State Meet. Register Online For Tri-state By October 1. Terry requests everyone to please register by October 1 to depressurize last-minute work. Go to www.tristatecorvairs.com and get your registration sent in online, then mail your check to Steve Gongora. Lupe Arellanes has done a fantastic job of tracking registrations, and she and the website builder, Tami Moore, have made an easy and clear online registration process available to participants. Steve Gongora has kept careful care of the registration fees, and he and Lupe are continuously cross-checking to make sure the process goes smoothly. Please Make Your Hotel Reservations Now. We are obligated for 40 hotel rooms, but we can book up to 50 rooms. If you encounter any problems registering for the hotel, contact Terry. A link to the hotel site is on the website. Registration Packets. Lupe demonstrated the packets she has put together for participants, including name tags, meal tickets, event brochures being prepared by Terry, car show tags, etc. The registration process is intended to go quickly for those manning the registration table, so people who are pre-registered should just be able to give the names of all in their party and have their individualized packets pulled from a tickler file. On-site registrations will be provided hand-written name tags, but Lupe intends to have all the same documents as the pre-registered people printed up and available by end of day. (Lupe, please let Jim know if you have any edits/additions to this.) Current Registrations. Terry reported with a month and a half to go we have 73 registered participants, 26 cars registered, 33 T-shirt preorders and 16 people registered for the El Pinto informal dinner on Thursday evening. El Pinto Reservations. Since the El Pinto invitation was not on the original iteration of the online registration form, a notice will be sent to all registered participants who haven't responded to this question, asking if they would like to join us. Registration/hospitality Room. This room will be located in the gift shop area of the hotel, just off the central atrium. There is very limited seating space in the actual room, but the atrium of the hotel is large and seating will be available for people to relax and catch up with friends long unseen during the last 18 months of the pandemic. It is a lockable space where there are display cases and counters available for the silent auction and raffle items, etc. Hot Air Balloon Event. David Allin is planning to attend the event and is still working on securing a hot air balloon for the event. Information Center. "Visit Albuquerque" will provide an information center in the hotel lobby. Terry is preparing a final, condensed, event-specific brochure for attendees with locations of nearby restaurants, car washes (in addition to the car wash station behind the hotel manned by CNM members), hospitals and emergency rooms, and suggestions for some of CNM'ers favorite Albuquerque attractions. Lapel Buttons. Terry has received the club lapel buttons for attendees, and the dash plaques have been ordered. Dr Harrison Schmitt. Harrison Schmitt is still on tap as the banquet speaker, and Larry Blair is working to coordinate his attendance. Sign-up Sheets. Terry sent around sign-up sheets for the Hospitality Room and Registration. He needs two people on registration and one in the hospitality area between 8:00 and 5:30 on Friday and between 8:00 and 12:00 on Saturday, and he has asked for people to sign up in 2-hour increments during those days. Six volunteers are needed to count votes. Schedules. We decided to have registration from 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM on Friday and from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Saturday. We decided to have the hospitality room open from 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM on Saturday. Time for the car show will be from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Saturday and voting for cars will be from 10:00 - 12:30 on Saturday. The Mountain Driving Tour will start ar 1:00 PM on Saturday. If we are able to have hot air balloon rides they will start at 7:00 AM on Saturday, weather permitting. The Banquet will start at 6:00 PM in the Taos room. Tri-State Committee Meeting. After the regular meeting the Committee retired to Rita & Steve Gongora's to work out details of door prizes and silent auction items. The quality of both is very high this year, so bring extra money! There are two wonderful lamps to be auctioned which are made of Corvair parts, donated by Fred Edeskuty, there are several collector car models with documentation made by Danbury Mint and donated by Bob Kitts, a number of beautifully wrapped theme baskets in a broad price range put together by Rita Gongora, and an art quilt with original digital watercolor prints of a dozen Tri-State Corvairs donated by Kay Sutt. Thanks to everyone in CNM for your generosity in making Tri-State 2021 the best one yet! New Business: Our Next Board Meeting will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 P.M. All members are welcome to attend these meetings. Let Kay Sutt know so she can add your name to the Zoom link sent out prior to the meeting (505-690-2056 or suttkay@gmail.com). Our Next General Meeting will be an in-person meeting (with appropriate mandated Covid guidelines observed) at the Highland Senior Citizen Center, 131 Monroe St, NE, on Saturday, October 2 at 10 A.M., pending any changes in the State's meeting restrictions. Members are urged to bring your Corvairs. Any changes necessitated by the State of New Mexico's Covid guidelines will be transmitted to CNM members as necessary. This is the last club meeting before Tri-State, so please make an effort to attend to support Terry and the Tri-State Committee's work, and find out what you can do to help. Announcements: Robert Gold brought his newly acquired orange Corvair truck, which he purchased with no title. He reported on the ongoing process (six months so far) of getting a bond to be submitted to the State for approval/disapproval to get officially recognized ownership papers. He will report back with progress. High Desert Title is working with him through this tedious process. Car for Sale: Guests Hi and Jim Tillery brought their 1967 yellow Monza Coupe to show after the meeting, and they are offering the car for sale. It has under 38,000 original miles, is in good condition, and they are asking $12,000 or best offer. Hi can be reached at 505-440-5073, if you are interested. Upcoming Events per President David: The 09/11 Cruise Night gathering will be 7-9 PM at the Old Tyme Shop and Ice Cream Parlor located at 10786 NM-337 in Tijeras. The last flying B-29 will be visible at Cutter Aviation from 09/17 - 09/19, with rides scheduled for a fee. (David, is this as you wanted it?) The meeting was adjourned at about 11:15 A.M. and some of us went out to admire the Tillery 1967 Corvair. Rail Runner Report. A total of seven CNM members attended: Larry and Cathy, Pat and Vickie, Tarmo and Kay and Anne Wiker. People boarded the train at various stops closest to their homes, then they congregated once aboard. The members enjoyed a sunny trip north to Santa Fe, where they leisurely noshed at Tomasita's, then reboarded the train for the trip south to Belen. The return trip from Belen to Santa Fe was marked by rain, sometimes heavy. The highlight travelling north was Tarmo's sighting of three Rampside pickups in the parking lot for one of the industrial facilities between Central and I-40. Since no signage was on any of the buildings, it wasn't possible to determine exactly where they sat. Anyone know any details? ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== BOARD MEETING, 09/15/2021 BY SECRETARY KAY SUTT The September CNM Board Meeting was held September 15, 2021 at 7:05 P.M. via Zoom. Present at the meeting were Vice-president Tarmo Sutt, Secretary Kay Sutt, Route 66 Cleanup Chair Greg Nelson and Newsletter Editor Jim Pittman. The October General Meeting will be in person, subject to any CDC and/or NM State Covid guidelines in place at the time. It will be held Saturday, October 2 at 10:00 A.M., at the Highland Senior at 131 Monroe Street, NE, Albuquerque. As of this writing, masks are required, and members are asked to check in at the entry for contact tracing, should it become necessary. The Tri-State Committee will meet Saturday, October 2 after the regular meeting. Greg reported on the Old Route 66 Highway Cleanup and his article is below. Thanks to Greg for so reliably taking on this responsibility! And thanks to all in CNM who participated in the cleanup during 2021! The Board voted at the last board meeting to postpone the election of new CNM officers from the October until the November General Meeting due to the Tri-State Meet. President David and Secretary Kay have both indicated they intend to retire, so new officers will need to be elected for those positions. Vice-president Tarmo indicated due to the fact he lives in Santa Fe, the position of President is not one he believes he can accept. Elsewhere in this newsletter are the responsibilities of each elected position and a form for nominations. In-person voting will also take place at the November meeting for anyone not submitting a written ballot. Completed nomination forms need to be delivered to Vice President Tarmo by the start of the November meeting. If you nominate someone for a Board position, please let Tarmo know if you have spoken to the person to find out if they are willing to fill the position, so Tarmo can talk to these people if you have not. You can also volunteer for a position yourself, if you are willing to serve by filling out the form and returning it. Jim Pittman includes in the this issue a history of the Boydston Award and a nomination form. The Award will be presented at the Christmas Party. Completed nomination forms need to be returned to Vice President Tarmo by the November General Meeting. It was proposed that VP Tarmo, Jim and Heula Pittman will make the selection of the Boydston award winner this year. The Christmas Party does not have a chairperson. If you are willing to undertake this project, please step forward to volunteer by the next meeting. You can contact President David Huntoon or Editor Jim Pittman with your offer. This is a one-time position, so it is a great way to give back to CNM even if you can't accept an ongoing volunteer position. The meeting was adjourned within the Zoom 40-minute limit. Members are reminded you are welcome at all CNM Board meetings. If you wish to attend a Zoom meeting of the board, email Kay Sutt at suttkay@gmail.com to request an invitation to join the discussion. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== OLD ROUTE 66 CLEANUP -- AND -- NEW MEXICO COUNCIL OF CAR CLUBS MEETING GREG NELSON Saturday October 9 is the next scheduled trash pickup. It is also the last 'official' pickup for 2021. We will meet in the usual place (east of the I-40 / NM-333 overpass) at 9:00 AM. Hope to see some new faces. Unfortunately, I won't be at the October meeting. I'm headed back to Texas for my sister's wedding (only her 2nd so it's a casual affair). I was not able to attend the Corvair Day at the State Fair on the 19th. I was at the Addison-Texas Oktoberfest. If there are pictures, I would love to see them. I attended the NM Council of Car Clubs meeting on September 22nd. The club officers extend their appreciation to CNM for bringing 15 cars to the State Fair's last day. Some other items of note from the meeting: A new club joined the NMCCC - Mountainair Goonies. There is a car show scheduled for Kirtland AFB on November 13. Lots of hoops to jump through to get cars onto the base. The Corrales Harvest Festival scheduled for September 25-26 was cancelled. The club is looking for a local area to hold a swap meet. The area must accommodate 400 spaces. As usual be sure to visit the NMCCC website for the latest updates (nmcarcouncil.com). Cheers -- Greg Gregory S. I had a good laugh, on me! The insurance story was a good one. I liked the kicker of the story. Where did you find the stories from Ron, Alan and Tito? Did you make them up? Subject: LAST MONTH From: JIM PITTMAN Date: 2021=Sep=03 07:50:52 MDT To: VICKIE HALL Hi Vickie, Glen Thompson wrote his "yarn" for the January 1977 issue of the newsletter as a true adventure that happened just as he wrote it. Glen was an excellent mechanic and owned several Corvairs. One of our garage tours was to his house where we saw a garage converted to a paint booth, including one of his Corvairs being painted. Glen had a demanding job and was always busy and usually over-extended. He took over editing the newsletter after Mark Morgan went on active duty with the Navy and kept it going for 16 months. He missed a few issues before finally quitting the job to take care of his business. I wanted some stories about 1964 Corvairs back in the day and I tried to remember all the people I knew who had one. Four of these were Ron, Alan, Tito and Don. They were real people and the stories were based on real events. I did not have room in last month's newsletter for Don's story, so here it is. Don was a college friend who got his PhD in physics and worked at my alma mater, Millsaps College. He bought a 1964 Spyder and since it was air-cooled, kept the RPMs up as much as possible to avoid overheating. He installed Michelin tires and was surprised at the "singing" sound they made on the highway. He loved it! He loved the "kick" from the turbocharger out on the highway too. Ron was a brash enlisted man, a three-stripe airman. He was one of the guys in the barracks. I was a newly arrived one-stripe airman so we weren't really friends. He had a black Spyder. Maybe it was actually a 1962 model, not a 1964. He told me that while he was still in Japan he ordered the car through a company that arranged for new cars to be delivered to returning overseas servicemen. He was the kind of guy who would have driven his Spyder as a high-performance sports car. Alan was a fellow second lieutenant whom I met when I arrived at the base from Officer School. He had a light blue 1964 Spyder coupe. He and I went on short and long trips, in my Fairlane or his Corvair, to explore Ohio and Michigan. We were impressed with the vastness of the Ford Museum in Dearborn. What amazes me now is that I have no memory of riding in or driving his Spyder. I had not yet become a "sports car person" and to me it was just another car. The Lieutenant Colonel in the story who took his meals in the hospital cafeteria was a real person. He was putting in his time until his retirement date rolled around. Several of us lieutenants had meals with him many times and he was generous with old war stories and with observations and suggestions to help us start our military careers. Tito was a first lieutenant from Douglas, Arizona. He had a yellow 1964 Spyder convertible. Tito told me the "hot-rodding" story and I believe it is completely true. Tito and I helped each other survive the "speech" segment of the school. We were both terrified of speaking before a group. So we'd work together on our speeches all night before the day we had to give them. Our 1965 "flight" at Squadron Officers' School in Montgomery, Alabama had 13 officers, first lieutenants and captains. Some I remember well. One was a hot-shot little guy from Arkansas who told us about the fun of flying a T-38 upside down. He was a flight instructor and the T-38 was a high-performance jet trainer. One officer was a captain stationed in Colorado Springs. He had a 3-cylinder 2-stroke Saab car. I visited him with my new 1966 turbo Corvair on my way to Alaska. Our appointed leader was a captain who owned a compact Buick Special. Another officer was a captain who piloted B-52s in the Strategic Air Command. I knew two SAC pilots back at Wright-Patterson AFB and they were absolutely ready to take off and bomb Russia at a moment's notice. When the B-52s and KC-135s scrambled and took off over Wright field where our lab was located, the noise was incredible. At Wright-Patterson one of my good friends was an Italian guy from Detroit, another lieutenant. He had a light green early model Corvair. He had a wife and baby. Later they moved into base housing and I visited them many times. I remember his Corvair spinning its wheels in the snow at the base hospital. It was a heavy snowfall and my car did not move an inch in the snow! I worked at a lab on the other side of the base from where base housing was located, and in bad weather I'd take the bus to work so I would not have to drive in the snow. In Alaska I entered my Corvair in an autocross that was held on a frozen lake with snow plowed off the ice and piled up to the side. The studded-tire-equipped front wheel drive Saabs beat everybody else, although the VWs with studded tires did pretty well too. My Corvair with its Michelin-X tires did not do so well. So many stories, so little time..... ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ============================================================================ | October 2021 | November 2021 | December 2021 | | Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa | Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa | Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa | | 1 2 | 1 2 3 4 5 6 | 1 2 3 4 | | 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 | 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 | 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 | | 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 | 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 | 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 | | 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 | 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 | 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 | | 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 | 28 29 30 | 26 27 28 29 30 31 | | 31 | | | ============================================================================ SAT 02 OCT 10:00 AM Meeting: Highland Senior Center 131 Monroe St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 Phone: (505) 767-5210 SAT 09 OCT 9:00 AM Old Route 66 Cleanup : last one of the year : I-40 / NM-333 36TH ANNUAL TRI-STATE CORVAIR MEET Dates: OCTOBER 15-16-17, 2021 Hosted by: CORVAIRS OF NEW MEXICO Host hotel: Marriott Pyramid North Location: 5151 San Francisco Rd NE Albuquerque, NM 87109 Phone: (505) 821-3333 WED 20 OCT 7:00 PM Board Meeting: meet via Zoom, hosted by Kay Sutt Contact: Kay at 505-471-1153 or ( suttkay @ gmail.com ) 43RD ANNUAL GREAT WESTERN FAN BELT TOSS & SWAP MEET Dates: OCTOBER 22-23-24, 2021 Contact: simcrestorations@sbcglobal.net Hosted by: VINTAGE CORVAIR CLUB OF ORANGE COUNTY Host hotel: VAGABOND INN : (750) 325-7211 Host hotel: 1699 S. Wendell was an irreplaceable member of CNM and loved doing body work. Robert Gold provided a photo of the group attending the State Fair Car Show and said it was another great one. Robert said the Car Council now had a working web site. Mary Lou and Mark Martinek planned to attend the Balloon Fiesta this year and we planned a dinner with them at Sadie's Restaurant. Charlie Biddle (Chicago AIRHORN) wrapped up his story of the 1975 Seattle convention. 2007 V.33 N.10 #385 Richard Finch posed with Wolfgang Meyn's sleek F1 aircraft in Moriarty. There was an Ultra Van rally in Ruidoso. We had a tribute to Debbie Pleau who died in August. Art Gold took over as Car Council representative. We should join SEPA to keep old cars alive. Jim had another rant about the folley of growing corn to make ethanol for auto fuel. We are still doing it. Ray reported on TUNAs for his 1962 Corvair. Brenda reported on the 2008 calendar. Jim re-wrote a classic report on picking up Old Route 66 trash. He was still disgusted that people would throw litter on our highways. Larry Hickerson's Rampside was on the cover of the Silicon Valley Corsa newsletter. Art reported on the Car Council picnic at Villanueva State Park. 2000 V.26 N.10 #301 Our Galles sponsor Joe Trujillo. Steve provided a photo of a "Corvair" bicycle. Sylvan welcomed guests: Larry Hickerson, Dana Doyle and Glen Gollrad. Wendell reported $6,019 in the bank. Mark Martinek reported on the Car Council. Jerry Goffe proposed a garage tour to a location in Santa Fe. Hurley remarked on all the neat car shows this summer. The All-Clubs Picnic was not well attended. Mark Domzalski said little was happening in CORSA. Tarmo said he had read the newsletter on his way down from Santa Fe tonight. How could he do that? Gridlock on I-25 provided plenty of opportunities. The board meeting was held at House of Covers. Chuck was back from Alaska with a fresh Aurora Borealis tan. We had new license plates, new T-shirts, new business cards, a new Route 66 project, and a new State Fair show. CNM's web page needed updating, but we didn't have a new webmaster. The Santa Fe Vintage Auto club invited us to go on their Frostbite Tour. Anne Mae reported on doings of the CNM Ladies group. Steve reported on a very successful campout at Ruth Boydston's cabin in the Pecos. Richard Finch told how he and Gayle (in the middle of their move from California to Tularosa) made a trip to Albuquerque to obtain a Monza convertible. They bought Dennis Pleau's 1964 car and towed it home behind their 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier convertible. Dennis Pleau rebutted a Click & Clack article with inaccurate slander of Corvairs. We learned about a good substitute for a Delco Remy coil: Accel Performance #8140. Use antiseize on your spark plugs, don't cross-thread or over-tighten a spark plug. You don't really want to have to install an insert. 1993 V.19 N.10 #217 A late Corvair with a Jaguar V-12 in the front. Bill McClellan said we mailed 14 newsletters to New Mexico addresses and 28 out-of-state. President Del ran the meeting. Will Davis said we had $1,228. New members were Scott, Deann and Andrew Kimble, owners of a 1967 Monza. Coming up: a tour to Red River, a car show at the Atomic Museum, a car show at the State Fair, an October Aspencade, a November Funkhana, the Great Western Fan Belt Toss and the Christmas party. The Villanueva campout was great. There was a car show at Peralta. We planned our first meeting at the Pleau residence to prepare for our 1996 CORSA Convention. Kay and Tarmo Sutt previewed our Aspencade to Embudo Station. Dennis reported on the San Jose convention. Debbie provided our first article on convention plans. A "Vairs in the Air" logo was designed by Bill Reider. LeRoy reported on the State Fair show which included Elliot Knapp's 1906 one-cylinder Cadillac. Prizes: Tarmo's 1965 Corsa, Bill Lawless' 1966 Corsa turbo and Bill Reider's 1965 Corsa. Kay's 1964 convertible got best engine, Mary Lou's 1963 convertible got best paint, Jeff Newman's 1961 Rampside got best interior. 1986 V.12 N.10 #133 A Corsa dash. A scene from a John Wayne western: election time. Our November meeting would be in Santa Fe. The library van was ready for some body work. Bill and LeRoy reported on their trip to the convention in Grand Rapids. Jim outlined the history of our newsletter. Kristin Romer reported on the scavenger hunt, won by new members Pam & Paul Clark. Billiken showed his military surplus radar detector. 1979 V.5 N.10 #49 Corvairs at the State Fair. Ruth Boydston's 1964 blue Monza convertible won best of show. We ordered full-color 1980 calendars from the North Texas club. More discussion about CORSA's 100-percent solution. Carl Johnson reported on the Detroit convention. Les Campbell wrote about Corvair life in Connecticut. Ike Meissner wrote about water in gasoline, how it gets there, what to do about it. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== Happy Birthday Wishes to October CNM'ers: Jon Anderson Erica Anderson Katherine Brock William Heil Terry Price Matthew Shortle No CNM Anniversaries this month. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== FRANCIS BOYDSTON AWARD At the 1998 Tri-State in Lake City, Colorado, CNM inaugrated the Francis Boydston Award. It was to be presented annually to a CNM member in good standing who best exemplified the influence, support, ideals, and values that Francis Boydston embodied. It was awarded to an individual, or jointly awarded to a member and spouse. In 2001 members of Corvairs of New Mexico decided to include Rocky Mountain CORSA and Pikes Peak Corvair Club in the Award and subsequently the three clubs shared the Award each year. However, at the 2019 Tri-State, organizers decided to drop the Award. It now reverts to CNM and will be awarded at the CNM Christmas Party. To commemorate the occasion, the recipient should be awarded a plaque suitable for display. The suggested wording for the Award is: ================================================= = St. Francis of Corvair = = Francis Boydston Service Award = = For Outstanding Service and Contribution = = To the Corvair Tri-State Event, and to = = The Perpetuation of the Corvair = = = = AWARD RECIPIENT NAME = = = = DATE = = = = This Award is bestowed in memory of = = Francis Boydston, a CNM founder and friend. = ================================================ CNM's Vice President is charged with setting up the Boydston Award committee. Suggested guidelines for consideration for the Francis Boydston Award: 1. Attend meetings. 2. Plan, coordinate, organize Tri-State Chapter or Tri-State Meet activities. 3. Share Corvair knowledge and expertise. 4. Encourage owners to preserve, maintain and share in the lore of the Corvair. The presentation of the Francis Boydston Award should be made at the annual Christmas Party. The presentation should be made by a Chapter official and should adhere to the spirit of previous Awards as set down by the original Francis Boydston Award Committee.
