DAVID HUNTOON Just wanted to say.... nice job everyone! To those that helped plan and organize and all that attended the 2021 Tri-State. Thanks for making it work. Two plus years of work with major issues along the way. Now it's done and in the books. Comments I have seen are all positive. Steve will have the final numbers but I am sure we did well. Rocky Mountain CORSA has picked Glenwood Springs, Colorado for next year's event. Never been there but am sure it will be great. Our road cleanup for Old Route 66 this year has finished and it is as clean as it has ever been. Thanks to Greg for taking on this task. Of course it will need as much or more effort next year. The trash cycle never ends. We will need more people to lend a hand! On the schedule for December: Saturday the 11th is our Christmas party at Mimis' at 3:00 PM. Jefferson and I-25. We can thank Maggie Kitts for making this happen. New officers are to be elected at our next club meeting on Saturday November 6. That will about wrap things up for 2021. I was thinking to mention all who helped with the Tri-State. Then again I worried about not recognizing or forgetting someone. So instead I will just say thanks to all for their help. For me, the Tri-State highlight was meeting Dr. Harrison Schmitt. A man who has walked on the moon and I sat and chatted with him at the same table. How cow! See you at the next meeting, David Someone mentioned that editor Jim never has his picture made and never gets it in the newsletter. Here is an effort to fix that problem, thanks to Tarmo at the October meeting. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== GENERAL MEETING, 10/02/2021 BY SECRETARY KAY SUTT The meeting was called to order by President David Huntoon at 10:15 at the Highland Senior Center. Sixteen members attended. President's Report: David reiterated that elections will be held at the November meeting. He is stepping down as President after the election, and he asked members to consider taking the position. Dave is willing to answer any questions about the responsibilities and the time expenditures for the position. Old Route 66 Cleanup: Since our chair Greg Nelson was away, David announced for him that the final highway cleanup for 2021 will be October 9 at 9 A.M. at the regular location. Cleanup events will resume in the spring of 2022. Vice President's Report: Tarmo reported that nominations for CNM officers for the coming year are due to him by the November meeting. The nomination form from the September newsletter can be mailed to Tarmo Sutt at 2504 Calle de Rincon Bonito, Santa Fe, NM 87505, or can be emailed to tarmo@juno.com, or you can text him at 505-690-2046. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor during the November meeting. Tarmo also asked that nominations for the Boydston Award be forwarded to him at the above location. Details and the nomination form were published in the September newsletter. The Boydston Award will be presented at the CNM Holiday Party. Secretary's Report: Kay Sutt reported she will step down as CNM secretary also, after three years. Please consider taking on this small, but mandated job for CNM, and contact Kay for details. Treasurer's Report: Steve Gongora reported the balance in the account is $10,351.67. Tri-State expenses will be coming in during the next month, so the next Treasurer's report will reflect many of those expenses. Steve presented to the club the eye-catching dash plaques he designed for the Tri-State meet. They are great! Be sure to bring your Corvair to Tri-State and see how they'll look on your dash! Sunshine Committee Report: Vickie reported the registration bags for Tri-State are essentially done and ready to go. She asked members to check dollar stores for the multi-serving packages of crackers/cheese, peanut butter/crackers, etc. She will drop these small snack packets into the bags. Terry has received the newly-published Albuquerque Visitor's Books and coupon books from the Visit Albuquerque tourism department. He will transfer those to Vickie to include in the bags. We decided that rather than put the dash plaques in the registration bags, as we have done in the past, dash plaques will be put in the individual Tri-State registration packets for those showing their Corvairs in the car show, to ensure everyone displaying a car in the car show Saturday morning will have a plaque. The remainder of the dash plaques will be available for those who want them at the Tri-State registration desk. Newsletter Editor: Jim Pittman informed us that the deadline for the next newsletter is 9 P.M. on Friday, October 29. Jim reported that costs to publish the newsletter are rising, and that printing in color carries a prohibitive cost. Discussion of whether to continue mailing the newsletters or making them available online only was broached, with several people indicating they prefer the physical newsletter, and others pointing out that the online version is in color and can be longer. Mailing costs are based on weight of the document. There was a suggestion to make the newsletter quarterly, but other members believe the newsletter reinforces members' connections, as well as connections with our sister CORSA clubs. No decisions were reached, and the topic remains open for future discussions. Old Route 66 Cleanup Report: Greg Nelson was not present, but send word that the last highway cleanup for 2021 will be held Saturday, October 9, at 9 AM at the regular location. Tri-State Update: Registrations: Lupe reports 90 people registered, and 35-40 cars are expected, including two Ultravans. Harrison Schmitt: Larry Blair has coordinated for Dr. Harrison Schmitt to be the keynote speaker for the banquet, and Dr. Schmitt's agent re-confirmed this last month. Dr. Schmitt will present a 30-minute discussion of his exciting life, including his walk on the moon. Larry asked about an honorarium for Dr. Schmitt. He asked that the amount of $500 be donated in his name to The Rio Rancho Astronomical Society. Larry Blair, Terry Price, David Huntoon and Tarmo/Kay Sutt each donated $100. Clarks Corvair Parts: Clark's will be donating 15 - 20 items for raffle prizes for Tri-State, ranging from catalogs to Corvair maintenance parts to gift certificates. Clark's has been in business for 48 years, and Cal and his crew are strong supporters of Corvairs and all CORSA activities. We heartily thank Clark's Corvair Parts for their generous contributions and urge our members to consider Clark's for your Corvair needs. Reserved Rooms: Terry is attempting to re-negotiate with the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North regarding the number of guaranteed rooms and dinners. This Tri-State Meet was postponed a year and a half due to Covid-19, and the original contract was signed over a year before the pandemic. It was based on attendance at prior Tri-States. We hope the Marriott hotel will recognize this challenge and allow some leeway if we can't meet the contract numbers of 40 hotel rooms for 2 nights and 125 people for the banquet. We await a response from Marriott. City of Albuquerque Assistance: Visit Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Visitors and Convention Bureau will provide two people onsite for the event. They will be available in the hotel lobby/atrium for questions about Albuquerque and provide tourism information, and they have been tagged to count cars show votes. Thank you, City of Albuquerque, for your support of New Mexico/Albuquerque tourism, in particular car events such as the Tri-State! Donated Model Cars: Bob and Maggie Kitts have donated a total of nine (!) Danbury Mint car models as prizes for the Tri-State Meet. None are Corvairs, but these beautiful and detailed models will make a valuable contribution to any model car enthusiasts' collection. Some will be available for Silent Auction and some as raffle prizes. Hospitality Suite: Brenda Stickler and Terry researched the requirements for the Hospitality Suite during the pandemic, and as a result of their study all foods will be pre-packaged items, not home-made items as in the past. Brenda has asked people to bring large bowls to serve these items. Soft drinks, water, and coffee/tea will be available in the Hospitality Suite, located off the atrium/lobby of the hotel. Coffee and hot water brewing equipment and many supplies are being provided by Steve and Rita Gongora and Bob and Maggie Kitts. Thank you! Corvair Quilt: Tarmo and Lupe presented the finished Corvair quilt to the group. This year's quilt, by Kay Sutt, features photos of Corvairs seen during past Tri-State meets that have been digitally modified to a watercolor painting style and printed onto fabric. The quilt will be available among the Silent Auction items. Covid Precautions: CNM will provide some masks for those who forgot theirs and multiple hand sanitizer stations for the event. Periodic sanitation of the hospitality tables in the Hospitality Suite and the atrium/lobby will be attended by our club. Announcements: Larry Blair detailed his and Kathy's recent 6,300-mile AMTRAK tour of the US. I don't know about you, but I'm excited to ask them for more details during Tri-State. It sounds like an awesome trip! The General Meeting was adjourned at about 11:35 A.M., and a brief Tri-State Committee meeting ensued. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== BOARD MEETING, 10/20/2021 BY SECRETARY KAY SUTT The October CNM Board Meeting was held October 20, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. via Zoom. Present at the meeting were Vice-president Tarmo Sutt, Secretary Kay Sutt, Tri-State Chair Terry Price, Route 66 Cleanup Chair Greg Nelson and Newsletter Editor Jim Pittman. The November General Meeting will be held in person, subject to any CDC and/or NM State Covid guidelines in place at the time. It will be Saturday, November 6, at 10:00 A.M., at the Highland Senior Center at 131 Monroe Street, NE, Albuquerque. The annual Election of Officers will be held at that meeting. Vice-President Tarmo will accept nominations for officers until the meeting, and nominations from the floor will be accepted. The Francis Boydston Award nominations are due by the November General Meeting as well, and the award will be presented at the Christmas Party, details of which will be coming soon. The Old Route 66 Cleanup has gone dormant for the winter months. Clean-up days will resume in the spring. Thanks, Greg Nelson, for chairing this committee so cheerfully and reliably during 2021. Newsletter Editor Jim Pittman set the October deadline for the newsletter on Friday, October 29 at 9:00 PM. The remainder of the Board meeting concerned the just-completed Tri-State Meet: First, Terry Price, Tri-State Chair, and the CNM Board wish to thank everyone who contributed time, money, labor and materials to make the Albuquerque Route 66 Tri-State Meet of 2021 a success. We also wish to thank the staff of the Marriott for their cooperation, flexibility and hard work which made this event possible and successful. Thanks to Dr. Schmitt for his "insider's view of his moon landing" keynote speech. All board members present report they have received good reviews of the event and gracious thanks from the attendees they talked to. Greg Nelson reports there are several favorable reports of the event published on the webpage for the Corvair Center. Terry reports not all the reconciled numbers for the Tri-State are available yet from Steve Gongora and Lupe Arellanes. The generous donation by Jim Pittman to 'seed' the event and the Marriott's willingness to reduce the number of meals and rooms CNM was obligated to pay for made the event essentially break even financially. The board discussed preliminary numbers, but a more detailed accounting of attendance at event and financial income/expenses will be presented to the membership elsewhere, once they are finalized. A preliminary count indicates 42 Corvairs and over 100 people attended the event. Planning and logistics were especially difficult at this year's event, which has been in the works for over two years, due to the uncertainties of the pandemic. However, the generosity, tenacity and hard work of so many CNM'ers made it a memorable Tri-State. The Board thanks all of you who gave your time, energy and money to make the Route 66 Tri-State of 2021 a rousing success! And thank you to everyone who attended the meet. Tarmo reports the www.tristatecorvairs.com website has been passed to Rocky Mountain Corsa in Denver for their use for next year's Tri-State meet to be held in Glenwood Springs in May, 2022. Discussion with both the Rocky Mountain and Pikes Peak clubs shows interest in keeping this website active year to year to support future meets. Thanks to webmaster Tami Moore for her generosity in providing the website to the entire Tri-State family. Jim Pittman requests articles and photographs to enable him to put together a special issue of the newsletter which will be emailed to all attendees of the event. Terry indicates email addresses for all attendees who pre-registered are available from registration documents. Kay will forward photos of the car show & shine award winners and their awards. Jim requests meet statistics, but since Lupe nor Steve were present at the meeting that information will need to be sent to Jim as it becomes available. Jim set no hard deadline for the special newsletter, rather it will be published as the information becomes available. Greg Nelson has the remaining packaged food not consumed in the Hospitality Room. The board agrees he will bring it to the next General Meeting, and it will be donated to the Highland Senior Center. The meeting was adjourned within the Zoom 40-minute limit. Members are reminded you are welcome at all Board meetings. Arrangements will be made by the incoming Board for CNM how members can join those meetings. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== CHRISTMAS CHARITY -- VICKIE HALL This year our charity donation will be The Storehouse. Bring your donations to the Nov. 6th or the Dec. 4th meetings or to the Christmas Party, Dec. 11th. I will collect and deliver them. Donations can include non-perishable food, new or slightly used clothing, toiletries, or cash donations. No furniture! ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== FINAL THOUGHTS, 10/02/2021 BY SECRETARY KAY SUTT As I complete my three years as Secretary of CNM I want to provide a few final thoughts about CNM: I have been a CNM member, along with my husband, Tarmo, for almost 45 years. During that time we have participated in innumerable club events, but the last three years' regular club service has given me new appreciation for this remarkable group of people. I have met so many varied and interesting people during that time, some now missing from our view and others still active. Many of these people I consider to be among my oldest friends. No pun intended! The dedication to community spirit these people represent remains a strong and positive factor for CNM, Albuquerque and New Mexico. That spirit has become even more pronounced during the difficult last two years when the pandemic and social/political divisions have shed a cloud over all public events. Dedicated CNM'ers have come out to club meetings in parks, back yards, and other safe venues to support one another and share a sense of community which has been unavailable to so many people. People have brainstormed, innovated, learned new skills and gone out of their way to stay in touch and keep CNM moving forward, especially those members who are most vulnerable among us. Members have stepped up and taken responsibility for tasks which require dedication of time and money, showing sensitivity and caring for other members and the Club. So many of these good people have provided the stability and support any club needs, especially in times when so many other clubs have seen splintering and disintegration. In fact, CNM has GROWN during the pandemic, and club members continue to support the Corvair hobby and bring others to the Club. I'm not going to name names. You know who you are. I urge those CNM'ers who have not been as active the last couple years to step in and move CNM forward as we emerge from the pandemic. It is coming into a new time, and you will be amply repaid for your investment by the friendship and community support you will find alive and strong in CNM! To CNM'ers, old and new, who have given so freely of your time and energy to stay positive and supportive of the community and the Club, I say THANK YOU! ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== Happy Birthday Wishes to November CNM'ers: Janice Allin Darlene Darcy Anne Johnson Jim Pittman Mary Zelli Anne Wiker ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== REPORTS FOR NOVEMBER GREG NELSON TRI-STATE MEET I had a great time at the Tri-State Meet and I'm ultimately glad I brought my 1964 Monza 900. By pure chance, I parked next to the only other car in the EC class. Seeing all those shiny and polished cars has really motivated me to spend more time on getting mine "up to snuff." I have my winter work all planned out. TRASH PICKUP October 9 was our last official trash pickup for the year. I say "official" because I plan to go out on a "warm" November or December weekend and tidy up around the I-40/Route 66 intersection and look for any large items along the rest of the route. David Huntoon has said he is willing to help. If anyone else is interested let me know and I will text ya the date and time. Afterwards we will meet at the Cafe for warm/hot drinks. NMCCC LAST MEETING I attended the NM Council of Car Clubs meeting on the 27th. This is the last meeting of the year. Items of note: The club president, Robert Gold, recounted that it took 8 months to procure a title for an early model Rampside he acquired recently but only 7 days to get a Horseless Carriage license plate. This is relevant because Sue Rymarz (Route 66 Cars and History Club) showed me a newspaper clipping of an upcoming public sale of two late model Corvairs. See the attached photo. I doubt either comes with a title so take that hassle into account. And be sure to check the Council website for a list of future and cancelled car shows. Maybe you can use it in the newsletter. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE US ARMY VIA AMTRAK BY LARRY BLAIR First of all, why did we go, when the Diehard reunion was cancelled? We had made reservations on AMTRAK way in advance [which you must do to get rooms on the train]; we needed some relief from the Covid ordeal; we both had gotten our shots; and at our age, we dare not tarry when opportunities arise. I am guided by the story of the very elderly owner of a beautiful manor covered with stately trees that he loved. He told his groundskeeper to plant a walnut tree. Thinking of his master's advanced age, the servant replied "But sir, it takes a long time to grow a walnut tree". The owner said "Then plant it tomorrow". So we said: "Let's do it". After Tom Jennings notified us of the cancellation, I changed our hotel reservation to Springfield VA, which is only a few miles from Ft Belvoir, and right on the Washington DC Metro, a fabulous transit system, which gave us easy access to everything in DC. So, we boarded AMTRAK in Albuquerque, checked into our sleeping room, and headed to the diner for a sit-down meal with other passengers, and with cloth napkins and tablecloths and real silverware [plus masks, of course]. The meals on AMTRAK on the western double deck trains are excellent; east of Chicago, they are substandard but edible. Changed trains in Chicago, went thru Indianapolis and Cincinnati in the middle of the night, then some beautiful Allegheny scenery before arriving in Washington DC. In Washington DC, we caught the Metro from Union Station to our hotel in Springfield VA. The highlight of the DC area was the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Even in a driving rainstorm they never missed a step performing their solemn duty. It brings forth strong emotions, even as we got thoroughly soaked. I will say that the Metro attendants, the bus and taxi drivers, and hotel staff were all very courteous and helpful, but we did encounter some petty officials who enjoyed exercising their government-granted authority to boss people around. For example, Kathy and I wanted to visit the Capitol building, but a guard came out and yelled at us "You can't come in here!" We felt like telling him that we own that building, but he had his orders from Nancy. I toured the National Museum of the US Army on my own, as Kathy stayed in the hotel to dry out and ward off a cold. The museum is truly awesome; a stunning modern edifice, surrounded by groomed grounds. I got my picture taken near the First Engineer Plaque, by LTG Roger Schultz [Ret], President of the Army Historical Foundation, with whom I had a nice chat. I later located other spots in the Museum where the Battalion is recognized. As General Schultz pointed out, the Museum emphasizes the American Soldier, and the role the soldier has played in all our wars, to include current issues. The exhibits are incredibly lifelike: one almost expects them to start moving. There are displays of armor; weaponry; vehicles; and battleground scenery that fills one's vision. The volunteer docents and guides fell over themselves being helpful and informative. I spent seven hours, and didn't see everything. Also visiting were Vietnam veterans from the First Signal Brigade who were having their reunion, and spent the full day there. We shared some war stories. I paid extra to play the virtual games. Didn't enjoy the flight one much, but the simulated bunker under attack was fun, as was the simulated tank in the attack. The snack bar food was good, with a good menu and prompt service. Our last day was spent on the Potomac River waterfront and historic district of Alexandria, and enjoyed some great seafood. Alexandria was once the slave trading capital of the country, but there's not much told about that [yet]. Back on AMTRAK, we went thru the Shenandoah Valley and five states to New Orleans, where we spent two nights. Visited the fabulous WW II Museum. It, of course, only deals with WW II, and places more emphasis on military and political campaigns and leaders, but it is a must-see if in New Orleans. Had a meal of raw oysters and crab-stuffed shrimp, and the obligatory biegnets; but NOLA requires proof of vaccination to even get into a restaurant. We also rode the St Charles street trolley to see the hundreds of Victorian mansions along the way. Lots of downed trees and foliage from the recent hurricane. Then, back on AMTRAK for the long haul to Los Angeles [46 hours], with stops in Texas cities, including the pretty town of Del Rio. Didn't see any migrants, but did see lots of border patrol facilities along the Rio Grande. After a several- hour layover in LA, we boarded AMTRAK for overnight to Albuquerque, ending a 6,300 mile train trip that was very relaxing and fulfilling. In addition to gaining a few pounds, it was wonderful to witness the variety, majesty, and grandeur of this great country; something you don't experience in an aluminum tube at 30,000 feet. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ============================================================================ | November 2021 | December 2021 | January 2022 | | Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa | Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa | Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa | | 1 2 3 4 5 6 | 1 2 3 4 | 1 | | 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 | 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 | 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 | | 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 | 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 | 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 | | 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 | 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 | 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 | | 28 29 30 | 26 27 28 29 30 31 | 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 | | | | 30 31 | ============================================================================ SAT 06 NOV 10:00 AM Meeting: Highland Senior Center >>>>>>>>> 131 Monroe St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 Phone: (505) 767-5210 >>>>>>>> Election of Officers at today's meeting. >>>>>>> Bring your nominations for CNM officers to the meeting >>>>>> Bring your nomination for the Boydston Award to the meeting >>>>> Give them to Vice-President Tarmo Sutt by the start of today's meeting SUN 07 NOV 2:00 AM - Set your clocks BACK an hour due to Daylight Time. New president Ray Trujillo introduced himself. Steve Gongora reported on Concours du Soleil 2014 in Santa Fe which featured 73 superb cars. Robert Gold's articles praised "small town" Albuquerque and the wonderful Corvair owners here. Paul Seyforth previewed the 2015 Tri-State in Durango. Vickie Hall reported on a great car show in Los Lunas. We praised Lee Reider and Emma Rogers for heading our Christmas donations effort for many years. 2007 V.33 N.11 #386 Classic cars at the balloon fiesta field of dreams. Robert provided a glowing account! Ray Trujillo was in Hawaii so John Wiker ran our meeting. David's father Walter Huntoon visited. Our Christmas charity was Barrett House. Brenda Stickler and Sylvia Trujillo worked on a 2008 calendar project. Election: Mike Stickler, Pat Hall, Wendell Walker, Chuck Vertrees. Eleven Corvairs were in the State Fair car show. Mike told us he had been working on Corvairs since he was a teen-ager and Francis Boydston introduced him to CNM in 1976. Oliver Scheflow reported on completing our eleventh year of Old Route 66 cleanups. 2000 V.26 N.11 #302 Mark Domzalski at the State Fair Car Show. The editor asked everyone to go out and vote for Dubya, Big Al or Ralph. We had guests Jim & Marlene Craig from Joshua Tree, California with an Ultra Van. Mark was going to Flagstaff to see how our club could help with the 2002 CORSA convention. Robert reported twelve Corvairs at the State Fair. CNM Ladies met at the Stickler cabin in the Jemez. The next meeting would be at the Pleau residence. We needed someone to take over CNM's web page. President Wilvert thanked Ollie and the Old Route 66 cleanup crew and Tarmo & Kay for organizing the Frostbite Tour to the Jemez. An article by Bill Hubbell listed differences between "early-earlies" and "late-earlies" which he compiled by comparing his 1961 and 1964 Monza sedans. A tech tip by Rusty Rose told us how to absolutely seal a back window -- from the context, it must have been addressed to owners of early models, not late models. Richard Finch told us about de-burring and lubricating spark plugs before installing them in aircraft engines. Diane Galli addressed vapor lock problems solved by a return gas line. Corey Homer told us who actually manufactures Craftsman tools. Joel Rushworth told us to replace your battered late convertible seat bottom with one from a 1989 Chevy Cavalier. Kenneth Schifftner relayed interesting details about the NTIS test of the early Corvair in which it proved to be just as safe as its contemporaries. Mark Martinek told us that the reason the country was running out of oil and nobody noticed was simple: most of the oil was in Oklahoma and Texas but all the dipsticks were in Washington. Oh for the days when we could joke about politics. 1993 V.19 N.11 #218 A 1961 station wagon. President Del ran our meeting. Our State Fair report said there were seventeen Corvairs in a very nice show. Dennis planned an article for the Communique to get more national attention for CNM as we plan for the 1996 convention. Francis said the CNM constitution called for the treasurer to be bonded. We voted for the board to look into this. Election night! President, secretary and treasurer agreed to run for re-election; Dennis agreed to run for vice president. We sold twelve copies of Bill's Care & Feeding booklet to Lon Wall's Corvair Underground. Larry said he was getting a valve train geometry kit to determine optimum pushrod lengths. Kay Sutt FAXed her report on the trip to Embudo: a good Aspencade despite dreary weather. Why was Otto Mechanic's uncle known as the "Wicked Winch of the West"? Was the 1916 Gillette one sharp car? 1986 V.12 N.11 #134 A Mark Morgan fantasy race-prepared Corvair. LeRoy reported progress on the Library Van project. New officers were Clayborne Souza, Tarmo Sutt, LeRoy Rogers, Chuck Vertrees. LeRoy provided a summary of expenses and income for 1985. Our next meeting was to be in Santa Fe. We planned an Aspencade to Bandelier National Monument. Bill Reider told us how to winterize our cars. Tech: What's in those heavy black cylinders in the trunk and engine corners of late convertibles? Why is it a bad idea to remove them? Electromagnetic effects of CB radios, neon signs, radar and cosmic rays on electronic ignition, fuel injection and anti-lock brake systems. Ride Pool said depreciation is the biggest expense in owning a car. Their 1984 data was based on buying a new car. If you buy a Corvair today, will it depreciate? 1979 V.5 N.11 #50 The cover presented a Corvair crossword puzzle. We needed to get our dues up-to-date and construct stanchions for car shows. A big deal was how to achieve 100% CORSA membership The board voted to reimburse the editor $15 for printing costs. New officers were Norm Brand, Bill Reider, Francis Boydston and Sylvan Zuercher. We had a report on our Aspencade to Valle Grande and an article on an "articulated" ATV with Corvair drive train. Tech tips: A comparison of bolting vs welding to fix loose, rattling flywheels and how to fix rear cooling door hinge pins. ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== ======~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~=====~====== Enchanted Corvairs Newsletter is published monthly by Corvairs of New Mexico, chartered Chapter #871 of CORSA, the Corvair Society of America.
