1)       Download files form c/cegis server and unzip.

2)       Convert  files to coverages using arc toolbox >Conversion > to coverage>Import from Interchange File enter imported files and preferred storage location in the appropriate locations

3)       Add the new coverages to the new map.

4)       Select the headwaters of the rio Pecos using the query builder.

5)       Create a shape file of the selected area by right clicking huc13;from the dropdown menu, select Data > Export Data.

6)       Select the streams in the headwaters by clicking the selection menu>select by location> and telling it to select streams that have there centroid in  pecos huc.

7)       Adding stream gauges to the to the map

*Go to http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nm/nwis/sw  > select by hydrologic unit > select 13060001 > display data as tab separated > select decimal lat,  decimal long, name,  gauge number, and altitude.

8)             Copy the output text file into excel, remove the heading and make the column headings more user friendly then highlight and save as a (DBF 4) file and save it to the workspace.

9)             Add this table to the data frame, then display by right clicking the table>click display XY data.  This plots the points on the map and creates a  new map layer

 

10)                To create a shape file, right click the new layer and select data>export data and follow the directions in the dialogue box.

11)                Make sure all of the projections match and fix layout.
