| Description: | Facilitate the participation of the participant with a disability in the community recreation program. The Inclusion Recreation Leader will work in cooperation/collaboration with the community center and/or school site staff. The ultimate goal is to foster full participation of individuals with disabilities. 1. Provide assistance to the individual with a disability throughout the program. Participants’ skill level will determine the degree of assistance needed within the activities. Areas of assistance may include physical assistance, verbal prompts, role modeling, and positive behavior support. 2. Facilitate social interaction between the individual and his/her peers. Encourage socialization throughout the program to promote friendship with other peers. 3. Adapt activities so the participant with a disability can participate to their fullest potential. Efforts should be made to include the individual in every activity offered throughout the program. 4. Act as an advocate for the individual with a disability – to promote disability awareness and emphasize the similarities rather than the differences between participants. 5. Reinforce the center/site staff’s instructions by repeating/rephrasing specific instructions. 6. Identify when the individual with a disability needs alternate activity. 7. Communicate with a variety of parties – participants, parents/caregivers, center/site staff, Inclusion Manager. You will act as the primary liaison between all those involved to maintain open communication and cooperation. 8. Provide the participant with supplemental skill training which may be necessary for successful inclusion (social skills, activity skills, etc.) 9. Provide an evaluation of the participant’s success in the inclusion setting. | ||
| Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Minimum 18 years of age and/or high school diploma or GED. 2. Minimum of six (6) months recreation or child care experience working with people with disabilities. OR completion of 30 college credit hours in Physical Education, Education, Recreation or related field. 3. Must have the ability to plan and prepare organized structured recreational activities; instruct, motivate and lead program participants. 4. Must have basic knowledge to recognize the nature and symptoms of physical, mental and cognitive disabilities; understand the concept of recreational inclusion. 5. Must have the ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants and the general public. 6. Must have the ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants and the general public. 7. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English when dealing with internal and external parties, to prepare accurate, concise, complete, and informative written materials. 8. Must have the ability to work under the conditions and with the equipment described. | ||
