Description: The Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory of the U.S. Geological Survey currently has a job opening in our IT section for qualified students. The IT section of the Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory supports scientists in their investigations of geologic hazards including earthquakes, and supports the operation and maintenance of seismic stations around the world. A student position with the U.S. Geological Survey provides a great opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic and exciting environment. The hours are flexible during the semester with the opportunity for up to 40 hours per week during breaks. Pay is dependent on education and experience and typically ranges from $10./hour to $15./hour. Qualifications: The position involves basic IT administration tasks; user desktop support, printer maintenance, software and operating system installation and updates, troubleshooting PC and network problems, and assisting other IT professionals with longer term projects. Experience with Red Hat Linux and Solaris is a plus, but is not necessary. Qualified students, must be a U.S. citizen, should have a strong work ethic, be a team player, and be willing and able to learn on the job while interacting with world class scientists.
