History 384 HISTORY OF JAPAN Spring 2004

Examinations/Papers:

There will be three examinations (two mid- terms and a final) and three short papers. The papers will be on assigned topics relating to the required readings for the course. Separate instruction sheets for the papers will be distributed.

Grading:

Grades will be based on the examinations and the paper assignments.

Attendance:

NOTE: Students are responsible for attendance in class and meeting scheduled examinations and established deadlines. Any variations should be discussed in advance, and must be supported by written documentation. Attendance is expected and will be contributing factor in determining grades. Five (5) absences may result in reduction of one grade; eight (8) absences may result in disenrollment from the course.

Individual Consultation:

Students are encouraged to meet individually with the instructor about the substance of the course and their individual work.

Graduate Students:

Graduate students will, in addition to the regular assignments, write three short reviews of supplementary readings selected in consultation with the instructor.
