Experimental Collaboration and Interaction with fellow Albuquerque artists Begun in the Spring of 2007, we (Betsy Greenlee, Fred Yost, Jaci Fisher, Leila Hall, Jeanine Allen, Elaine Scott, Gaye Garrison and Jeff Potter) were inspired by previous artist/ writer collaborations, most notably the "Scribes Eight" and we strive to explore artistic genres we generally have not thought about attempting. Abstract art came to mind and we chose to meet every six weeks and share our individual efforts at "making" abstract art from a commonly agreed "project" scope discussed at the previous meeting. Herein describes our journey. Below is a chronological listing of web pages made from our past meetings. Click on any meeting to see our efforts. Elaine Scott Project
Elaine's
notes (4-26-08): "I chose the Google building complex partly
because of the solar panels on the top of each of the various shaped
buildings. Aerial photos are available on Google Images and were the
basis for my abstracts.

Because I was in college at the time I didn't have time to explore the wonders and beauty of the Bridge so in 1983 I went back to Brooklyn on its 100th anniversary to photograph and enjoy. For this painting exercise I used a photo that was taken from the Manhattan side of the bridge right near where the FDR Drive crosses under. This Bridge has been the inspiration for many artists and writers so I am proud to have joined them. "

project 4-26-08
Leila's Notes: "Guggenheim in Bilbao--collage of metallic
papers, pastel. Though I thought it would be easy, painting a
building and taking it to abstraction was very difficult. I love the
shimmering, silvery "skin" on the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain,
but struggled with light. The shapes

Jeff Potter Project Jeff's notes (4-26-08): "I chose Sandia Casino and Resort mainly because I live nearby and see it's dominant form while driving or bicycling both in the day and at night. It has an intriguing contrast of architectural lines and forms and also contrasting earth tome colors. I discretely drove by up close and shot photos from my car. I created a couple collages from torn photos and also used Photoshop to render the colors to a minimum of four gray tones. Ultimately I chose a view of the east ediface (IMAGE1) and painted an oil 10" x 14" as a first stage of abstraction (IMAGE2). I then wanted to further abstract the the shapes and push the colors and did a pastel on Wallis paper 9" x 12" (IMAGE 3). I feel that another round of simplification and shape generalization could be done but it tends towards an interesting composition. If seen as the only image without the prior stages it works to a certain degree. Finally Image -4 is from a digital 'simplification' using the Adobe PS Cutout." Our next project is to return to another architecturally-designed structure such as a building or bridge and create an abstraction. Next meeting is Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 1 PM.
