Philanthropy has become an inseparable part of Kappa life for both collegians and alumnae. Service to others has been a natural outcome of Kappa values. In 2004, we announced our first-ever national philanthropy, RIF (Reading is Fundamental). This program works to build a literate nation by helping young people discover the joy of reading. RIF's highest priority is to serve the nation's under-served children and families through the development and delivery of literacy programs and campaigns that motivate youth to read regularly.
Kappas are also very involved with the surrounding community. During Greek Week Kappa raised over $3,000 dollars for the Rio Grande Zoo's Penguin habitat. As a chapter we participate in many projects that help our community and the university. Many of the girls also do individual volunteer work. As we continue our tradition of leadership in serving others, let us all remember that philanthropy is an opportunity to live out our Kappa values.
