All solution instruments are available around the clock, with the exception that on Thursdays maintenance and nitrogen fills are done. The time varies, so check with us.
Schedules for each instrument for the next week are posted outside 071 Clark on Friday mornings. Students who are authorized may self-schedule at that time.
There are 3 blocks of time that may not be reserved on the "downstairs" AC:
10:00-11:30 am, 3:30-5:00 pm, and 7:00-8:00 pm. These times are reserved for "walk-on" or unscheduled usage. Please limit yourself to 15 minutes during these open times.
The "upstairs" AC is normally used for undergraduate labs. However, it is available for reserch use outside those times. A schedule is posted on the door of room 118. Researchers may sign up for any time not reserved for clases.
The schedule for the ASX is not posted. See the facility director to schedule time.
The schedule for the Avance 500 is also posted outside 071. This instrument has three open periods each week. Consult the schedule for exact times.
Liquid helium fills often render the instruments unstable for a few hours. The next fill is scheduled for early October. Signs are posted on helium fill days.
It is reasonable to anticipate that the instruments would be unusable for several hours after a power outage.
