Are you looking to gain work experience for your resume?
Apply to the Sociology/Criminology Internship Program (Soc 488)!
Internship Checklist for Students:
Obtain a copy of your current "E progress" report, and bring it with you when you meet with the Sociology undergraduate advisor (department phone number 277-2501).
Have the Sociology advisor, Karen Majors, fill out advisor portion of application to ensure you are academically eligible for SOC 488. Note: You must have a major GPA of 3.0; be a Junior or Senior; and be able to commit to at least 10 hours of internship work each week (150 hours for the semester).
Have a Sociology faculty member fill out the confidential recommendation form; to be turned in by the faculty member to Prof. Vélez in a sealed envelope.
Fill out the application and submit to Prof. María Vélez by Friday, April 24th. Make sure to include the 500 word essay. If accepted, go to steps 5 through 9.
Meet with Prof. Vélez and go over internship possibilities.
Write up draft of letter of interest to field agency and resume and meet again with Prof. María Vélez to go over resume and letter.
Send final letter and resume to field agency.
Contact the agency to set up interview for final consideration.
Once accepted by the agency, register for SOC 488 and follow the SOC 488 syllabus provided by Prof. Vélez for academic requirements to get credit for this course.
