Renee Delgado
Graduate Student in Educational Psychology

Renée Delgado is completing her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology this fall and will be applying to the PhD. program in Educational Psychology and Sociology to begin in Spring 2010.  At the young age of 23, a single mother of a 3-year old daughter, she has accomplished much work in her community through being a Church Council member and community activist since she was thirteen.  She has donated these skills and resources to the university community to build a network through mentoring, advisement and participation in various committees such as Latino/Roundtables.  As an undergraduate McNair Scholar, she pursued independent research looking at how sororities and fraternities influence dating activities while presenting her work at national conferences in Berkeley, California and Miami, Florida.  Foundations for her inspirations for post-baccalaureate research stems out of her experiences as an intern at El Centro de La Raza and AmeriCorps.  She continues her social activist passions by being involved with the Graduate and Professional Student Association, Raza Graduate Student Association and The Project for New Mexico Graduates of Color.  Currently, she is working with the Ronald E. McNair and Research Opportunity Programs as a peer advisor at the University of New Mexico that focuses on providing students with resources to pursue undergraduate research and to apply to doctoral programs.
