Roberta Marquez
Program Director for New Mexico Legal Aid
Roberta L. Marquez is a proud native New Mexican and Nortena. She was born and raised in Espanola, New Mexico and attended McCurdy School from 1st through 12th grade. After graduation, Ms. Marquez attended the University of New Mexico and earned a Bachelor of University Studies/Liberal Arts degree.
In 1995 Ms. Marquez graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law. Ms. Marquez clerked for the Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office during law school and after graduation. In 1998, Ms. Marquez became the Children Youth and Families Department, Regulatory Compliance Program Director. In 2001, Ms. Marquez became the Assistant Director of the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center and in 2005 took on the duties of Chief Administrative Officer for the Bernalillo County Fire Department. In the fall of 2007, Ms. Marquez accepted her most rewarding professional position, serving Albuquerque’s poor and homeless as Program Director for the non-profit legal assistance organization, New Mexico Legal Aid.
Ms. Marquez is fluent in Spanish and has published research and writings with law school professors in the legal journals Latino Employment, Labor Organizations, & Immigration: Fragments of Historia Ella, Historical Themes & Identity; Latinos in the United States: History, Law and Perspective, and Latino Employment; and Labor Organizations, & Immigration: Latinos in the United States.
Ms. Marquez interests include international travel and fitness. Ms. Marquez is a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor with an emphasis in holistic fitness through Pilates and core training. She, her husband and two children reside in Albuquerque and are avid ice hockey fans and sports enthusiasts.
