ART ED 320 Teaching art in the Secondary
School

Description: Philosophical,
psychological, theoretical, and practical
concepts about teaching art in the middle/junior and senior high school,
including observation of and involvement in art teaching situatins.
Course Description: Experiences
relative to developing knowledge and competency for planning,
implementing, and evaluating art programs for
middle/junior and senior high school. Inlcudes 20 hours of
observation at a secondary school outside of class hours.
Methods of Instruction: Class
discussions, individual research, small group work, team teaching,
studio lab work, field work.
Course
Objectives:
Students can expect to -
1. Design art lesson
plans that adddress national and state standards with a focus on
historical and/or contemporary art, the production of artistic objects,
the analysis of art using an art criticism model, and the exploration
of sociocultural issues.
2. Develop assesement strategies to use at the secondary level.
3. Identify classroom managment skills for use in the secondary
art classroom.
4. Learn and understand the developmental levels of adolescents.
5. Have a knowledge of art materials that can be used at the
secondary level.
6. Have the opportunity to plan and teach a successful secondary
level art lesson.
