Edwin Chávez-Carr was a student at Alburquerque High School from 17 August 1995 to 18 October 1997. While at Alburquerque High School Edwin was very involved in his school life. He was a member of the Alburquerque High School Football Team. He was an outstanding player who knew how to motivate his fellow football players to victory.

Edwin was a member of the Alburquerque High School Army Junior ROTC Program for his entire time at AHS. He was quickly identified as a student who was a nautral born Leader. In his short stay at Alburquerque High School JROTC program he quickly moved through the ranks going from Cadet Private to to Cadet Second Lieutenant with duty assignment as Platoon Leader responsible for 28 Cadets. Under his leadership, he was able to motivate his cadets to perform in such an outstanding manner, that they contributed greatly assisting the JROTC Program to receive a rating of "Honor Unit with Distinction". They were rated as being in the top 2010of over 1600 high schools with Army JROTC. Edwin was being groomed for The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

If the majority of today's youth were to be like Edwin, The Police would be out of a job of fighting crime, but directing traffic. The 3rd Year cadet's classroom has been named the Cadet Lt. Edwin Chávez Carr Classroom.

An Annual award has been established in his Honor and will be used to recognized a cadet who exemplifies the Edwin's dedication. The Award is known as the Edwin Chávez-Carr Spirit Award. This year's recipient is Cadet Major Ruben Dorado.
