Dive and Rescue the Lady

This is a “visiting couple” type of figure described in “Cowboy Dances,” by Lloyd Shaw, all editions, pp 361-363.

First and third gents lead to the right (or use with other figures in a visiting couple square)

Circle three (left) with the side couple

            (Head ladies promenade anti-clockwise around the circle of three containing their partner)

Dive and rescue the lady

(Each head gent dive through the arch made by the side couple, pushing the gent’s hand through the arch before him and bringing those joined hands up and over, gents turning back to back in a dishrag turn under (head gent turns left face, side gent right face), until the two gents are facing back toward the lone lady in the circle – no one has dropped any hand holds – and then pull the lady through an arch made by the two gents)

Now dive and rescue the gent

(Each head gent again dive through the arch made by the side couple, pushing the lady’s hand through the arch before him and bringing those joined hands up and over, turning back to back in a dishrag turn under (head gent turns right face, woman turns left face), until the two dancers are facing back toward the side gent in the circle – again, no one has dropped any hand holds – and then pull the gent through an arch made by the head gent and the side woman)

Now circle four (left) and here we go

(Head ladies quickly join the circle of three to make it four, standing between the two gents)

And break it up with a docey doe

Dough, dough, a little more dough

Chicken in the bread pan, kicking up dough

One more change and home you go,

Everybody home and everybody swing
