Tunnel Square

This dance has not been found in any source. As called by Bill Litchman in various places in Europe and America.

First couple bow and first couple swing,

Down the center and split the ring (separate).

Lady go gee and gent go haw,

Past the sides to make lines of three.

Three to the center, three fall back,

Lone couple swing and face right in,

Three to the center, make an arch.

Lone couple tunnel through to the other end,

Lone couple swing and face right in,

Head man push and turn the lane,

Lone couple tunnel through to the other end,

Lone couple swing and face right in,

Head man push and turn the lane,

Just half way and everybody swing.

Allemande left with your left hand,

Right to your partner, right and left grand.

The active couple needs to make sure that they are standing next to the side couples but on the side nearest their original home (next to their original corner). Then, when the tunnel turns half way and half way again, they will return to a place quite close to home. The lone couple, after swinging, faces down the axis of the tunnel and tunnels through to the other end where they swing again. Once the tunnel has turned half way, the lone couple stops their swing, facing down the axis of the tunnel again, this time toward their original home. They then tunnel through to their home and swing again, while the tunnel turns for the second time. At the end of the figure, the lone couple continues to swing and the other three couples join in with a swing of their own. The active couple will have to go forward to their partner before swinging home.
