Physical Education Activity Program
Mission Statement
The purpose of the University of New Mexico’s Physical Education Activity Program is to provide students with the essential skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. The Physical Education Activity Program is an integral part of the total education process and significantly contributes in the areas of affective, cognitive and psychomotor development. In addition to physical well being, our activity program develops self-discipline, self-evaluation and an understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses.
At the University of New Mexico, our activity program curriculum is based on a progression of learning experiences that allow students to participate at their optimal level of performance regardless of chronological age or fitness level. The learning experiences are designed to promote development of all participating students in a carefully planned, comprehensive, and innovative environment. Our approach translates into a meaningful and successful experience that meets the individual needs of each student. We feel it is vital that every effort is made to help our students develop the skills necessary to maintain a healthy mind and body that is needed to accomplish their goals in life.
