Associate Provost of Academic Affairs to Return to Teaching

davidstuartDavid Stuart, Associate Provost of Academic Affairs is leaving his position to return to teaching at the end of October. “Life circumstances require me to take a new direction and free up some of my time. So my role at UNM will change when I step down from administration and focus on teaching, which I love,” says Stuart. “I am grateful for the wonderful job I’ve had and the support I’ve received from six provosts and five presidents. It’s been exhilarating.”

Stuart has served as associate provost since 2000, overseeing weekend and evening degree programs, summer school, a new ‘urban agenda’, and the graduation project which sought out students who stopped attending classes and brought them back into the academic system.

“It would be hard to overestimate the importance of David Stuart’s contributions to UNM,” said Provost Brian Foster. “He’s a great manager, a committed and decent human being, and an accomplished scholar. He’s been extraordinarily innovative in creating programs like the Graduation Project. He’ll be greatly missed.”

In addition to teaching, Stuart will continue work on a new book, “The Guaymas Chronicles, Volume 2, Zone of Tolerance.”
