Navajo women warriors to speak at brown bag lunch

Four Navajo women veterans will talk about their military experiences and their role as Navajo women warriors in two events on Monday, September 12, 2005. University Libraries and the Indigenous Nations Library Program will host a brown bag lunch and panel discussion in Zimmerman Library room 102 from noon to 1 p.m.

An event in the Willard Reading Room from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. will include a panel discussion and the screening of a documentary, “Navajo Women Warriors: Sani Dez-Bah, with comments from the director, Alice Carron.

Four Navajo women veterans will accompany Carron. Angela Barney-Nez who now works for the Navajo Nation Office of the Speaker, is a veteran of the U.S. Army. Helena Anthony served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. Mary Cohoe worked for the American Red Cross, but was assigned as a civilian to serve in Vietnam. Barbara Pickering is currently serving with the U.S. Marine Corps at Kirtland Air Force Base.

Both events are free and open to the public.
