The University of New Mexico is beginning a Presidential Internship Program for undergraduates in the offices of the New Mexico congressional delegation. Students must be junior or seniors and have a 3.0 or better grade point average. In addition to working in a congressional office for the fall 2006 semester, students will also be required to carry 12 hours to maintain their student status at UNM.
Program Manager Dolores Gonzalez says they are working out details for the classes, and some class sessions will be taught by UNM professors in Washington D.C. Although some of the classes will be in the area of political sciences, students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. UNM will give each student intern a $4,000 stipend and assist them in finding housing. A total of five internship positions are available.
Applications for the Program are due by March 8, 2006 and can be accessed online at D.C. Internship. There will be an informational meeting on the program on Feb. 16, 2006 at 11:15 a.m. in Room 2069 of the Social Sciences Building.
