University of New Mexico Acting President David Harris has announced the appointment of Michael Schwantes, CPA and MBA, as acting Associate Vice President for Financial Services on main campus while Bill Britton is on short-term leave.
“Mike has a strong accounting background and knowledge of the University that made him the right choice to lead the main campus financial services during this interim period.” said Harris. “I expect Bill to be back to work soon. In the meantime, I have confidence in Mike’s ability to keep a watchful eye on our financial operations until Bill is able to return.”
Schwantes has been with UNM since 1994, holding a variety of senior level, supervisory and management positions, most recently serving as Associate Controller for Sponsored Program Accounting (Main Campus & HSC). He is a graduate of UNM, earning both a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Geology.
As a member of the University's financial leadership team, the Associate Vice President serves as the senior official responsible for the overall management of all main campus fiscal and accounting services, management reporting, as well as all internal fiscal operations, systems, and controls.
