The Human Resources Department is sponsoring the 2nd annual Disability Awareness Expo Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in SUB ballrooms A&B.
Students, staff, faculty and parents are invited to meet with disability-related groups, associations and agencies to obtain information about services and programs. Participants will include Adelante, Goodwill, Community Options, Camp Rising Sun, Lupus Foundation, Easter Seal, UNM Accessibility Services, UNM Mental Health, Commission for the Blind, Commission for the Deaf, veteran’s groups, and more.
KKOB radio manager Art Shreiber will give an address titled “Breaking the Barriers” at noon in SUB ballroom A. Shreiber is active in the disability community and was appointed by Governor Bill Richardson to the New Mexico Commission for the Blind. During his more than sixty years in broadcasting, he has traveled with John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Lyndon Johnson and the Beatles.
“We had a great response from the campus community last year and look forward to this year’s event,” said organizer Mimi Swanson, Human Resources.
