The Latin American and Iberian Institute executive committee presents Research in Progress talks Friday, Feb. 23 at the Faculty Club. Speakers include Professor of Anthropology Les Field presenting, “Mining Pre-Colombia: Past and Present in the Cauca Valley;” Professor of History Sam Truett presenting, “Old New Worlds: Ruins and Empire in America;” and Professor of Political Science Kathy Hochstetler presenting, “Environmental (In)Justice in Brazil.”
The talks are the result of efforts by Cynthia Radding, director of the LAII, who organized three working groups for Latin Americanist researchers at UNM. The groups focus on Colonial, Caribbean and Brazil.
Bill Stanley, former interim director of the LAII and current secretary of the executive committee, suggested that there was a need for others outside the three working groups to have the opportunity to hear about their colleagues’ work. The result is this first session of informal talks on research in progress.
