STC.UNM Recognizes 14 UNM Researchers

STC.UNM is recognizing 14 University of New Mexico researchers and faculty members who have received patents or registration of a copyright over the past year. This is the fourth year that STC.UNM has honored UNM researchers.

The award recipients for patents include:

** Tione Buranda, research associate professor from the UNM Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Pathology Department; Daniel F. Cimino, research specialist in cell biology and physiology; Eric R. Prossnitz, professor of cell biology and physiology; Larry Sklar, professor of pathology; and Peter C. Simons, associate scientist, Cancer Research and Treatment Center, and research assistant professor of cytometry and pathology for “Bead Based Detection of Ligand-GPCR-G Protein Complexes”

** Christie G. Enke, professor emeritus, chemistry department, for “Distance of Flight Spectrometer for MS and Simultaneous Scanless MS/MS”

** Majeed M. Hayat, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and Bradley M. Ratliff, graduate student, Anderson School of Management, for “Uniform, Non-Disruptive and Radiometrically Accurate Calibration of Infrared Focal Plane Arrays Using Global Scene Motion”

** William J. Kroenke, emeritus professor of chemical and nuclear engineering, and Robert T. Paine, Jr. distinguished professor of chemistry, for “Nonaqueous Borate Route to Boron Nitride Powders”

** Robert T. Paine, Jr., distinguished professor of chemistry, for “Non-Aqueous Borate Aerosol Route to Porous Boron Nitride”

** Wilmer L. Sibbitt, Jr. M.D., professor IM division of rheumatology and neurology, for “Reciprocating Syringes”

The award recipients for copyrights include:

** Bruce S. Edwards, research professor in the School of Medicine Pathology Department, and Larry A. Sklar, professor in the SOM Pathology Department, for a copyright titled “HyperSip Software”

** Bruce S. Edwards, research professor in the Pathology Department, for a copyright titled “IDO Query Program”

** Jeannie M. Martinez-Welles, professor of Health Careers at UNM-Gallup, for a copyright titled “Solar Oven”

** William K. (Bill) Szaroletta, P.E. director of Advancement Services, for a copyright titled “Advancement Services Informatics Center”

Four of the patents have already been licensed, and the others are being actively marketed. One of the copyrights "Hypersip Software" is being further developed in an interinstitutional agreement.

STC.UNM is a non-profit corporation formed by the University of New Mexico to protect and transfer its faculty inventions to the commercial marketplace. The corporation works to license the intellectual property created at the university.
