Bryan Konefsky Presents: 'Experiments in Cinema v. 2.0'

'Experiments in Cinema version 2.0,' presented by the UNM Media Arts Department and Bryan Konefsky, returns with an international mix of contemporary, experimental short films that are both challenging and splendid. The event will be held April 13-15 and is open to the public. General admission is $5, UNM faculty and staff $4 and students $3.

On Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, the venue will be The Southwest Film Center, rm. 1003, in the Student Union Building located on the UNM Campus. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. both evenings. On Sunday, the event moves to The Guild Cinema, 3405 Central Ave., N.E. from 1 to 4 p.m.

Beyond Hollywood, beyond the money, the pretty fDavid Brookshire and the sleaze there remains a means of expression that is true to the individual and the imagination – film art! For those who have ever wanted to challenge themselves and the limits of film, it is recommended to come see 'Experiments in Cinema version 2.0.'

As part of the three-day event, 'Experiments in Cinema version 2.0' will present an afternoon with Gene Youngblood, internationally known theorist of media arts and politics, as well as respected scholar of history and theory of alternative cinemas. His Expanded Cinema (1970), the first book to consider video as an art form, was influential in establishing the field of media arts. He is also widely known as a pioneering voice in the media democracy movement, and has been teaching, writing and lecturing on media democracy and alternative cinemas for 37 years.

'Experiments in Cinema version 2.0' is also excited to present Home Movie Day, an annual worldwide celebration of amateur films and filmmaking. For the past five years Home Movie Day events have provided an opportunity for individuals and families to learn more about their own family movies, how to care for films, and how home movies helped capture the history of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The McCune Charitable Foundation, Basement Films, The UNM Department of Media Arts and the UNM P.L.A.C.E. Program sponsor 'Experiments in Cinema version 2.0.'
