University Libraries recently hosted a celebration to recognize the role that UNM Information Technology Services and High Performance Computing Center have played in creating an infrastructure that ensures University Libraries services will still be available even in the event of disaster. All library servers are located in the ITS building and a duplicate set of servers is located across campus at the HPC building.
The first phase was the relocation UL servers to ITS, which put the UL’s electronic services out of harm’s way when Zimmerman Library was heavily damaged by a basement fire during finals week of the Spring 2006 semester. The fire occurred within 150 feet of the former location of the library servers. Library electronic services were never interrupted and were available to students during and after the disaster.
The system supports elibrary.unm.edu, eReserves, interlibrary loan, the Rocky Mountain Online Archive and content housed on dspace and CONTENTdm such as Himalayan Journal of Development and Democracy, the Robb Musical Archive, and the Latin American political poster collections.
