Submissions Sought for Student Award for Innovation in Informatics

Submissions are currently being sought for the UNM Student Award for Innovation in Informatics sponsored by The UNM School of Medicine Division of Biocomputing and the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center. The UNM Student Award for Innovation in Informatics is awarded to a UNM graduate or undergraduate student for the best paper describing innovation or research in the field of informatics. Proposals should focus on biology, chemistry or the health sciences.

The award will be based on the degree of innovation and quality of the research, the application of informatics techniques, and the clarity of the proposal. The awardee will be asked to present the results of his or her work at the "Biocomputing @ UNM Workshop" on March 28 and will receive a $250 cash prize.

Submission Guidelines...
Submit name, contact information, and pre-proposal abstract no later than March 1 to Philip Kroth, M.D. The abstract should be limited to 150 words and not include figures or technical schemes.

Award Timeline...
* Submit pre-proposal abstract, limited to 150 words, Feb. 25, 2008 (no figures or technical schemes)
* Notification of accepted abstracts Feb. 27
* Submit final paper, limited to 1,500 words, 1-2 figures March 17 or technical schemes, and references as appropriate
* Notification of awardee March 21
* Awardee presents paper at the “Biocomputing @ UNM” March 28, 2008, workshop

Eligibility...
Enrolled UNM graduate or undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Current affiliates of the Division of Biocomputing or the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center are not eligible.
